Re: Plastic Gas Tanks

If I close my cap tight the can swells up like road kill in the sun and gas seeps out around the plastic outlet fitting. I leave it loose.

Even with the constant UV exposure the better cans last several years.

Re: Any body bought one of the Bimini tops off Ebay.

I'm not going to be much help... My frame was OK so I was looking for a replacement cover. The crazy number of slightly differing descriptions--or lack of descriptions--turned me off of eBay for this. I bought one of the "universal" covers (4-bow) off Pontoon Stuff and it's well-made and fits tight....

Re: BATTERY QUESTION

There is much I don't know about batteries & charging but IMO 50% isn't 6V because a battery with only 6V won't do a thing for you except light a dim bulb. Battery output is plotted on a curve and it drops off into "useless" pretty fast. I would consider a battery "dead" (0%) at 9V. A couple years a...

Re: Toon cleaning help

Would an acid wash like this do any good on toons that have NEVER been cleaned in 20 years? Much of the advice here seems to be for ongoing seasonal maintenance. I'd like to know what to use to get years of gritty lake scum off the lower half of the tubes. I do have a pressure washer--but not 200 m...

Hmmm...I seem to have asked the wrong question.

Lemme try a different question: What's your favorite rub to use when smoking a pork butt?

Re: 2000 Johnson 40 won't fire

No bleed screw on the solenoid in this Johnson--just a manual bypass. Turning the bypass also didn't get the motor to start. There's a Schrader valve in the center of the bypass that's meant as a port for injecting fogging oil. That might serve as a bleed (?) but I've never heard of it being used fo...

2000 Johnson 40 won't fire

Getting the 'toon ready for the season & everything looks fine after winter storage. Except now the motor cranks & cranks but won't fire. The fuel priming bulb is firm. There's fuel visible in the filter. I hear the "choke" click when I press in the key--but I suspect the choke solenoid might be bad...

Re: "Instant" transducer mount. Flex Glue?

An interesting suggestion! I was considering using a less-slippery type of plastic--don't know why it didn't occur to me to use an aluminum pad instead.

Time to rummage through the scrap aluminum bin at work...

Re: "Instant" transducer mount. Flex Glue?

After speaking with a 3M engineer yesterday I'm now considering their VHB 5952 mounting tape. it's heavy duty, conformable, stays full strength underwater, and meant for slick plastics like polypropylene & polyethylene. I suppose Stern Saver has a good reason to make glue-on mounts using a type of p...

... and keeps the weight in the stern where you want it. I was concerned I had too much weight in the stern with 2 batteries, fuel tank, oil tank, anchors & other junk under the seat. Usually it's only my wife going out with me & I make her sit in the bow because the only weight forward is the boat...

Re: How to keep pontoon seats looking brand new?????

I haven't found anything that quickly removes mildew spots better than bleach or products containing bleach. I've also read many times to avoid bleach on boat seats because it weakens the stitching. (I guess it never occurred to the manufacturers to use bleach-proof thread) Last year I bought & trie...

Re: Where do you fill her up with gas? Cans, station or marina?

I have tried the Super Siphon and went back to the Quicksilver Blow Start. It will will transfer faster and I think it is easier to get the transfer started. http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MER91-827497A+1 Cool! I often start a siphon by blowing into a 2nd short hose whil...
