Re: Marine 31 Mildew

It's the "lot of bleach" part that concerns me. I found plain bleach does an awesome, quick job of removing mildew & stains but I'm scared I'm shortening the life of my seats. I just sprayed it on, and never even had to touch anything with a brush or rag. Does it say in the instructions to spray on ...

Re: How long did you shop for your boat?

We probably all know a guy with infinite patience who will wait forever for the perfect deal. Or the guy who walks around with a fat roll of cash in his pocket so he can pounce on a deal when he finds it (usually when NOT looking). For the rest of us--if we're honest--there really isn't enough diffe...

Re: Towing MPG Thread

What's your understanding of the purpose of the Tow/Haul switch? I don't think it's just for engine braking. My owner's manual just says to use it when towing or carrying a lot of weight--no reason why. I always thought it was to keep the trans cool by keeping the torque convertor locked up sooner/l...

That's smart mounting it outside the floor area.

Re: Installing a tach

I bought it off eBay, $100 new but no box or instructions. It's a Teleflex "Lido" for Johnson/Evinrude with System Check lights. Mod. 64477F.
I'm pretty sure Sierra 64477FP is the same gauge.

Installing a tach

My current pontoon (96) and previous (79) have no gauges at all. I have a fish locator that can tell me my speed but I wanted at a minimum a tach & warning lights. In order to make this work I first had to replace the electrical cable that runs from the console to the outboard. The PO chopped all th...

Swing-back seats

You know those seats where the backrest flips so you can face either direction? Are they all as uncomfortable as mine? It makes me sit ramrod straight and the lower cushion is shallow & flat so I can't slouch. No way to adjust the back angle since the base is molded plastic. Boat seating is typicall...

Re: NEW SKIN FOR 96 STARCRAFT

FWIW an idea you might like: I suspended the 5-foot loading ramps on my ATV trailer by cutting a PVC 4x4 post cover in half and screwing the resulting long "C" channels to the frame crossmembers using large-head self-tapping sheetmetal screws. The ramps glide in easy. I tried the hanger brackets fir...

Re: Propping Chart and information.

Pretty expensive proposition if you don't have a marina that lends props to try before buy.

Re: Propping Chart and information.

I just read this topic beginning to end and it raises a question: In the first posts there is much weight given to reducing prop slip, then several posts questioning if low slip is even possible on a pontoon that plows rather than planes. By the end there's no mention at all of prop slip. I've looke...

What's the problem with these new primer bulbs?

While on vacation after the 4th I replaced my fuel hose assembly with a new one from Attwood. Squeezing the bulb until my forearm hurt never built any pressure in the bulb. It sounded like the fuel was just shuttling back & forth through the rubber bulb. I returned it and got my $50 back and bought ...

Re: Portable tank users: how long is your fuel line?

So it appears the majority leaves it long. LOL

In other gas-powered pursuits it's normal to make the fuel line as short as possible. Isn't fuel vaporization a concern if the excess sun-soaked hose is just coiled up on the platform or in the pod?

Re: New seats?

I looked at reupholstering my old toon.
Looked at pontoonstuff & GreatLakesSkipper
Ended up buying a well-cared-for used boat for what I would have spent on the seats.

I realize I've only postponed the problem, but it works for me.

Portable tank users: how long is your fuel line?

I just had a holiday weekend annoyance: bad leak at tank connector had me sucking air & had to limp back to the dock. Had to run to town for an overpriced fuel line & bulb. Which was defective & wouldn't build pressure. Back to town to buy JUST the ends to repair my too-old hose, and that works. I'm...

Re: Bimini top issues

Does this boil down to the top frame is wider than your fence width? I've noticed when shopping bimini top frames there's a lot of manufacturers with a "one size fits all" mentality where frames are formed wide enough to fit a 8.5' wide deck and to mount to a 8' deck you just flex the frame & stuff ...
