Re: Your thoughts about how to wire stereo amps, etc.

I have three amps and two subs. One amp is for the rear facing speakers and is only on if we are hanging out behind the boat. Re: Reasons not to winter my boat in an uncovered wet slip?

Mine has been at my dock in the water for 13 years with no issues since I don't have a trailer. I just brush the toons in the water once a month in warm weather.

Re: Steering question

I would get a correctly sized cable at this point. That one likely has wear points that increase the resistance.

They will be more white than shiny. Only way to get the shiny look is to polish.

Make sure your motor height is correct. If it is not you get strange results with different props.

I think you are on the right track with the solenoid. I had one on a yamaha that did the same thing. Replaced it solved the issue. I am not aware of a good way to test them when they work intermittently.

Can't tell from the information you are giving us. You could try another input into the amp to narrow it down. Does the amp take rca inputs?

Re: No start, new switch, new solenoid.... next?

Use a meter to see if the trigger wire on the solenoid is getting 12 volts when the key is turned. You can also test the solenoid by applying power to the trigger wire (not jumping the solenoid).

Re: There MUST be a reason my OEM prop weighs 4X aftermarket

Nope. Stainless just weighs much more than aluminum. I have an OEM yamaha aluminum prop that came new on my yamaha 150 years ago. Very light compared to the stainless one that I replaced it with. Motor works fine with both.
