New Tritoon Owner
Well, after several weeks of research and searching for used, we pulled the trigger on a new one. Just couldn't find what we wanted in a late model low hour boat. This one hits all the check blocks. Fishing and Cruising/partying. The Berkshire 231 RFC (Rear Fish Front Cruise). Full fishing set up on the stern, with nice accommodations for the rest of the boat. Yamaha F150 for power.. now Just have to sell the Aquasport to help pay this thing off

Welcome, and congratulations on your new Berkshire. We also are really pleased with our's too. Do you have the full length center toon with in floor storage and the 52 gallon fuel tank?
If you haven't already done so, or had your dealer do, you might want to consider having Sharkhide applied to the toons while they still are new looking as they will oxidize pretty quickly and look ugly. I didn't do it, and the dealer didn't push it and after 9 months it looks poor. I'm now getting them acid washed and then sealed with Sharkhide next week.
Congrats again

No they didn't push the shark hide, and just after a few outings I can see the looks of the toons deteriorating. is Shark hide the only answer? is there anything else out there that may be useful, I don't have the full third toon, mine goes about 2/3 back, 31 gal tank. Right now trying to prop it correctly, they put a 14.75 Dia. x 15 pitch Yamaha reliance on it, and it's not turning up the full RPMs that it should, only getting 5400, the mech who did the run in sheet stated 5900 at 39 MPH but that (if true) is not realistic after putting some people on and gear. I'm looking for a 14 pitch now.

Re: New Tritoon Owner
My dealer originally equipped my 24SSLX (150 Yamaha) with a 14M Yamaha stainless prop. It was hitting the rev limiter and was pushing about 36 mph. They switched mine to a Reliance, and it's perfect for my combination.
It should be up to the dealer to properly prop your boat. After you have time on the engine to wind it up, play with your power trim and see what rpm's it pushes.
FYI: Hot water and hot temperatures do affect performance somewhat. My boat's sometimes slightyly short of 6000 rpm's on a hot day.

Re: New Tritoon Owner
Thanks for the info Bamaman, my performance sounds similar, what performance drop do you see as the load increases? I ran it by myself last Friday morning (reliance prop) and clicked just over 39 MPH @ 5900 rpm. It seems that for about every full size adult onboard I would lose about 100 RPM and right at 1 MPH. Now I had 11 people (mostly teenagers) on the boat Saturday and she pulled 28 MPH @ 5200/5300. So it is always in the recommended WOT range, I just wonder if a 14 would just let the engine wind up more with a loss of speed rather than an increase?Bamaman wrote:My dealer originally equipped my 24SSLX (150 Yamaha) with a 14M Yamaha stainless prop. Nice Rig! I agree, the smaller pitch will let it turn up with a load and you may not even loose speed when light loaded.
