Hello from Utah!

#1 Post by Grumpyguy » Wed Aug 24, 2016 5:49 pm

First time pontoon owner here in Utah. I purchase a 2006 21' Party Barge and have a question about a cover for it. I looked on pontoonstuff.com and have found a nice cover and I am wondering if anyone has purchased a cover from that site and whether or not their products are superior to others out there. Any info will be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the club Grumpy.... and congrats on getting yourself a new toon... as for the covers on Pontoon stuff, I have never bought one from them as I keep my boat in an indoor storage facility,.. however if and when the day comes that I bring my boat home I will probably buy one of their covers.. Looked into a custom cover once and the shop wanted something like 1500 bucks... well you could buy 4 or more covers from pontoon stuff for that price... I do know that a lot of the guys on this forum have purchased items from Pontoon stuff, and I don't recall anyone being upset with their purchase... also I believe you get a 10 percent discount for being a member of this forum.. at least you used to... how bout some pics of your new boat?

Thanks for the info fella's. I think I'm gonna just give 'me a try as they are cheap enough to replace if needed. Thanks again. Pics to come soon.

Welcome to the forum!

For your cover, look at replacing the "snaps" for the support poles with these vents

https://www.amazon.com/Vico-Marine-Boat ... oat+vent+3

The vent portion is helpful enough itself. But, how the support pole goes in there spreads the "load" of the support pole over more area, and it wont come loose as easily. Letting the hot air escape through the top really helps when she's parked in the sun 5 days a week.

Welcome to the group! Spent a wonderful few days at Snowbird last year. Before the ski season. Gorgeous place--would love to go back and try out the new restaurant at the end of the gondola ride on top of the mountain. Amazing watching trucks hauling materials up the haul road to the site. Hope they had good brakes for the ride back down!

Thanks for spotting the vents on Amazon. My problem is that the plastic bolts underneath my mooring cover get lost, and I need to buy all new vents. If the poles are not poked into the vents, they will not hold up under winter winds on our lake. I only use my mooring cover for winter due to it be so hard to deal with.

And a factory OEM replacement mooring cover from Bennington is $1500--and that's without the snaps installed.

Welcome & congrats! There are a couple quality boat cover makers around SLC area that measure & custom build covers for close to what you will pay for something a bit more generic.
