new pontoon owner in ohio

#1 Post by cds111 » Tue Nov 08, 2016 7:19 pm

recently purchased a 1993 24' sweetwater pontoon without a motor. also recently bought a 1988 bass boat with a dt150 Suzuki motor. already got the dt150 mounted on the pontoon and in the process of getting everything hooked up. pretty sure I'm going to run out of time before the snow flies. sure I will be needing some help and advise on this adventure. thx, chris

If the Suzuki is a 4 stroke motor, you might want to ask around for setup advice prior to buying the new propeller.

Many Suzuki outboards have a planetary gear in the drive shaft, and they have a much lower gear ratio--slow moving prop. They require a large diameter, very high pitch prop.

Many marine mechanics can setup a Merc/Yammie 4 stroke motor on pontoons/tritoons. But Suzuki's are different animals.

No, its a 2 stroke motor. I just bought a new prop, 14" diameter with a 13 pitch. hopefully it works out, if not it will be a good spare. I'm looking to sell the prop that came on it, its a Suzuki stainless steel 14 1/4" diameter with a 24" pitch. what do you guys think I can get out of it?
