Just picked up my first pontoon

#1 Post by SLTKota » Mon Jul 22, 2019 6:30 am

Hey! I'm Stuart and I thought I would introduce myself.

I just picked my first pontoon over the weekend, I grew up on the water and still have other water toys but I'm looking forward to the toon life. I've got plenty of questions so I'm quickly becoming familiar with the search feature.

I was looking at much older boats as this will be a second boat but a 2017 24' Suntracker xp3 (tritoon) fell into my lap and I couldn't pass it up, it is the "fishin' barge" version so I guess I will need to try my hand a fishing as well :lol3

So far I'm loving the Merc 150 4 stroke, what an improvement over the two stroke 125 on the boat it replaced! I'm thinking I might need to work on the setup because so far it is topping out at 32 MPH (gps) at 5300 rpm's but I had the bimini up with 3 people on board so I was pleased with that... for now. I'm sure I will want to try to get a little more out of it if I can.

Anyway, just thought I would stop in and say hi as I get use to this thing, it still feels like I'm driving a dock around but it has me smiling ear to ear while doing so.

-Stuart

Welcome aboard and congrats on a nice rig!
Once you get used to it, you will feel cramped in smaller boats. My boat is old and slower, but I do know what you mean about the grin :biggrin2

Welcome to the group and congrats on your new fishing toon... Bought mine new about 9 years ago, also set up for fishing.. I love it.. sometimes when we go out to fish, we may stay out there 6 or more h ours.. so nice to be able to get up and walk around and stretch your legs.... don't think I'd be near as comfortable in a bass boat... again, welcome to group, post some pics of your new rig when you get a chance.

I should have known everyone likes pictures :lol3

I don't have any pictures of it out on the water yet but here are a few from the trailer. I've been very pleased with the speed but I think I might need to drop down a pitch on the prop, it has a 15.3 X 14P on it and it seem like most have a 15.6 x 13P but run several MPH faster wide open. I'm not sure if it would be worth ordering a new prop to try out or not at this point.

On a side note, this thing is COVERED in warning stickers :lol3

I'll try to get some pictures on the water this weekend, it was pretty dirty in these pictures.

She looks pretty good.. the floor plan is almost identical the floor plan I have on my Benny... except you have more floor space than I have since your's is a 24 footer / mine's a 20" But layout is the same / fishing chairs, fore and aft... same general setup... Pretty sure y ou're gonna have a good time on that rig.
