trouble with bass buggy 40 horse Johnson

#1 Post by shabby999 » Wed Sep 23, 2009 4:49 am

Hi
I recently purchased a 1991 sun tracker bass buggy. I'm having trouble getting it to idle. I'll turn the ignition key, and after a few turns, the motor will start, but I have to gun the throttle to keep it running. ( by the way it's a 1991 40 horse Johnson ). I've run two cans of sea foam through it. It runs fine at full or 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, but when I throttle down to 1/4 or neutral, it will stall. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you going to need to get the carbs cleaned, the idle jets may be pluged

Yep, a carb rebuild and you'll be good to go.
