Just go back to the home page and click on the " general pontoon and deckboat " tab.. then just type in your questions and submit it.

Hi:
My name is Jim. We live in Eagle River Wisconsin on the chain (Catfish Lake). My wife had been wanting a pontoon boat for 28 years. I have always been opposed to it, as I like small fast boats. We have a Switzer and a Hydrostream for the adrenaline, which my wife also likes.

3 years ago we took the plunge. We purchased a 21' 500 series Southbay with a new 90 hp Merc 4 stroke. It has the "L" grouping of furniture and the extra Bow bench to enclose the pit group seating. It is 8'6" wide and has the 25" dia tubes.
We installed a depth gauge and a 4.1 stereo system with subwoofer, power amp, equalizer, and LEDs for fancy interior lighting in the Kicker speakers. We have a bunk trailer for it and this year we are refitting an older 108" Shoremaster lift. (I know - 6 inches to spare).

We bought the brackets and attached two 14ft (2 X 12's) on Saturday. Now we just have to get it down by the dock.

-Any advice on how far forward to put the pontoon boat of the lift. I am figuring that the bow sticks out over the front with the stern snugged up closer? I thought that there might be a formula to determine the proper positioning.

Wife, 4 kids, and friends wanted us to break down and get a pontoon boat. I caved.
It does 24 mph top speed. Not an impressive number. It seems like a pretty average pontoon boat with a nice stereo. The 4 stroke 90 is very quiet.

I just wanted to say "Hi", now that I have been approved by the forum moderators.

Pickinator-
You'd probably get more response if you started a new thread instead of just adding on to this one, but let me try to help you anyway.

the 108" width of your lift is pretty standard. That's what my boat rests on and it's no big deal. Mine is also 8'6" wide.

Install the bunks (boards) so the back edge of them is about a foot or so beyond the rear lift cross member. Then line up your boat on the bunks so the back edge of the pontoons is even with the end of the bunks. That will probably put the front crossmember of the lift near the middle of your boat, so you'll have a lot of boat hanging off the front of the lift. That's typical. Between the motor and the fuel, the vast majority of the boat's weight is in the back half of the boat, which will be well supported by the lift.

Good luck!

Good Morning,
Newbie here just saying hi and giving you some info on me and my new/old pontoon situation I've got myself into recently. I'm in south Texas so my bodies of water will be Lake Livingston, Lake Conroe and Lake Houston. I've recently took on a new project which is a 1986 24' StarCraft Tritoon W/ 1992 Evinrude 225. The boat was free so when I went to check out the situation I couldn't resist. The boat had been sitting for 8 years but seemed to have a good platform to start from. I have pics of the progress made so far but don't know how to post pics on here?

Welcome! I've lived in Virginia for 20+ years, but as a former Houstonian I spend many weekends on Livingston and Conroe. I had a friend with a house and a boat in Waterwood on Livingston, and later I lived in a condo just off of Highway 105, past April Sound on Lake Conroe. I have lots of good memories on those lakes. Enjoy your new boat!!

I am a new pontooner (if that is really a word).

My wife and I bought a house on a lake in 2020. We had been looking for a few years and trying to decide if we should move from PA to our oldest son in IN or our youngest son in OH or in between. Both have lakes nearby their homes. We finally agreed that it would be better to live next to one and hopefully be able to travel frequently to see the other son. And, we agreed to let whatever house we find to make the decision for us. We ended up in IN where we both grew up. I just got an anticipated severance package on February 5 and I am now officially retired. We purchased a new (unused) 2019 Sylvan 8524 Mirage LZ tritoon with a Yamaha 150 from a local dealer. We are also getting the old simple dock replaced with a U-pattern and a lift and I hope it is ready early in the spring before our boat is delivered. I will be watching this forum much more closely now for all of your good advice.

Cheers

Hey Mike I look forward to chatting it up with you and all the followers to learn. Just bought my first tritoon boat and plan on travelling the Trent Severn waterway system in Ontario Canada over the next number of years.
