New member from Cali here...

#1 Post by EVO28 » Fri Jun 04, 2010 2:25 pm

Hey everyone!!
We bought our pontoon three years ago and have not regretted our decision. We have had plenty of good times on our boat and plan on having many more! Our summers are spent in Lake Havasu, Az. and various parts of the Colorado River.
I have been lurking on this site for the past couple of weeks for information, seems I still have alot to learn about maintaining my boat. It has been very informative! Looking forward to our first trip on Father's Day weekend.

Hey EVO28, I was thinking of going to lake Havasu soon and the Colorado river, whats does one need to look out for and where are the good spots, never been there, I am from Vegas so its rather close.

Depends on what you plan to do while in Havasu, if you are going to go just to party then the Channel is where it's at. It has beaches on both sides where you can beach your boat near the London Bridge. If you are taking family, there are plenty of coves you can beach at, just try to get out there early before the good ones get taken. I definitely recommend going up river toward Topoc, make sure you follow a boat that knows the route as there are sandbars you must manuever around as I have heard of numerous boats hitting the sandbars. I still have a lookout up front just keeping an eye out due to the changing water levels. Once you start heading up river you will find another party spot known as the Sandbar where it gets really crowded, chances are if you are the first one there you'll probably the last to leave. One of our favorite spots is the Topoc Gorge, it has a couple of sandy beach areas and it is in a no wake zone. If you feel hesitant to make that ride up river you can always launch out of Moabi off I-40 and head south. Moabi has a lot of nice sandy beaches!!
Hope this info is helpful. If you see us out there feel free to stop and have a cold beer!

It is shallow!! 3'-5' in some areas... I took me about two seasons to finally step up and make my way through. Most boats trim up and just fly across it.. I am still a little hesitant to do that just yet!
