Hello, New Here...

#1 Post by 2buoysandagirl » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:51 am

Howdy,
New to your forum but already appreciate the wealth of knowledge you have here.

I've got a 2006 Sun Tracker Party Barge (Regency) 22' I/O with the 115(?)HP Mercruiser... Bought it in November and already loving every minute we can get on it...

One question (and if there'a a better place to post I apologize in advance) has anyone had much luck adding a rear swim platform or deck to these boats? A friend has a 2008 Bennington with a factory platform and ski pylon and I'm green with envy. I love the protection it provides over the I/O for swimming kiddos. I've done some digging, but can't seem to find an aftermarket option or a Sun Tracker part that meets the need?

Thanks again for providing the forum...

Randy from Colorado...

Welcome

Not a big fan of the swim platforms less the fact they look cool. I prefer to let the swimmers use the side gate away from the motor. Here is one from amazon, guess you are talking about the full width teak ones

Doc,
Thanks for the link... Side gate and front gate are a hit with the kids jumping off, but my little ones are 4, 7, and 10 and getting back up on the side or front can be a tall order (literally). I also pull my sons on a kneeboard and wakeboard and having the extra space off the back to "strap in" would be a big bonus!
After making some more calls I may have found someone local that mfg's the platforms on a custom basis. If it's reasonable and we end up doing it, I'll be sure to update some pics and share what we did...

Thanks again,

Good luck with it. Guess I just have a phobia about being in the water next to the motor. I was surprised when all the manufacturers started putting the ladders on the rear, but from what I hear they are the most popular. I guess cause they are out of the way an easier to board the boat with. Still think they look cool.

Mine has a ladder that snaps into a couple of doodads on the floor (sorry about the highly technical term) from either side gate. It works very well for the kiddos (mine are 7 and 10 but even younger ones seem to do well with it). I am not saying anything against a rear platform, but having one of these ladders might come in handy even if you have a rear platform.

when i was looking for a toon that was one of my biggest things was to have rear entry not realy for the getting out of the water but for being able to get to the back of the boat. now on my old boat i sometimes needed to access the motor with out rear entry that is a task in its self so that is the biggest reason i like it also it is easier to get into the boat from the back but if some one is back there i make sure the motor is off and just to be sure since the motor is quite i pull the lanard switch also. now i wouldnt trade rear entry for anything also helps at the dock. okay done spouting about it.

Crone Marine in Heber Springs, AR has a fantastic under deck ladder for the front deck. The number is 501 362 6083. They are on ebay with the seller name of CMS in think. They are also being sold in the Overtons catalog. They slide under the deck as a solid ladder. Just pull it out and it drops down, 3 rungs in the water and 1 at water level on my boat.

If you have 26" logs on a Tracker you only have 2 rungs in water or it is on mine. Have thought about selling it as we never use it.
