LOOKING AT A 1987 HARRIS KAYOT W/ A 351 FORD V8 IN IT, WOULD LOVE TO BUY IT BECAUSE OF ITS "MAN POWER" BUT I AM ON A BUDGET DO THESE THINGS HAVE COSTLY REPAIRS COMPARED TO OUTBOARDS???

There still thousands of these pontoons around and still running great. I believe that is an OMC outdrive. Make sure tilt works good. Some old OMC's tilted the motor instead of the outdrive.
Old outboards of that era were hp based at the powerhead where now at the prop. As far as repairing them I don't know if one would be better over the other
