Sad day

#1 Post by res3301 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 3:45 pm

this was my 1st season with a pontoon boat. prior to this season I have had small v-hull fishing boats. what was I thinking! the pontoon boat was delivered the end of July and my wife and I used it every chance we had. Today I had it shrink wrapped. now its a sad reminder of weather to come. can't wait till spring.[img][/img]

Well Ga is still accepting residents where you can boat about 10 months of the year, but at least it makes life worth while looking forward to getting it from storage in the spring. Sort of like unwrapping a late Christmas gift.

...So is Florida, and you can boat year round! We also have lots of cheap foreclosures, several in my neighborhood. :nutkick

True but why work if the gov is going to support us all. Just buy stock in the company that sells the printing press to the gov. They should wear out pretty quickly the way they are cranking out money.

We are just heading into our winter crappie season--around first week in Nov. Last yr was a good one--all the way thru Feb.

I feel your pain. We pull our toon tomorrow after a morning of fishing. get her cleaned up and off to be shrink wrapped on Monday. First snow should happen anytime - although nothing forecast for the next 10 days.

After tomorrow the wait for mid April begins.

We're refusing to give her up as of yet. Fact is we're taking her out this weekend forcasted highs in the mid to low 60,s with sunshine both Sat. and Sunday. It in a sense it will be cool for boating, but just piddling along and not creating our own wind chill factor it will be doable. We're planning on utilizing our boat as far into fall as feasible before allowing the winter doldrums and blues to set in.

OK all you yankees! Why not get a pontoon enclosure? There are plenty of websites that offer them. The cost can get up to a few thousand so if ya got any extra cash to invest, I think it is a great add-on.

We actually added the Premier enclosure for ours when we traded up to the PTX last month, but the dealer had to order it from Premier so we wont be getting it installed until this winter while they are storing it for us.
We figure it will extend our season by about 2 - 2 1/2 months between starting earlier and stopping later.

Problem for me is our marina's new owner is from Florida and wants everyone out of their slips by October 31. He doesn't realize we boat well into late November and sometime mid December up here.

I guess he'll learn, everyone's complaining. Old owner was from MD and was Ok with us staying in the water until the water froze, which is becoming very rare these days.

Not closing up shop just yet...one of the benefits to living in the south is a warmer climate meaning later boating season in the fall and earlier boating season in the spring. Supposed to be in the mid 80's both days this weekend and me and my bride of nearly 30 years plan to spend about 4 hours or so each day out somewhere on Caddo lake fishing..... Like someone else said, almost the best time of year for crappie...... as for the enclosure idea, kinda hard to fish in one of those so --- no thanks.... once it starts staying consistently in the 60's we'll probably call it a year 'cause as you know, 60 degree's in your driveway is alot warmer than 60 degrees while out running around on the lake...
