My wife & I both have bait-casting reels. We call them "Boat Reels". We use them only for trolling, and never cast with them. Neither one of us can get them to cast reliably.

For casting we have our "Casting Reels". These are open-face reels.

I have a few and use them mostly for trolling and casting crank baits, Shimano Castaic probably my favourite
