More Frustrating Than Golf!

#1 Post by REPETE » Thu Jul 11, 2013 11:13 am

So after fishing with minnows for two days without any luck one of us tried leeches. ...and he caught a walleye on the first cast. I put on a leech, another walleye on my first cast. I go to put another on and it's the last one... yep - another walleye... but now we're out of leeches! So we go right to the bait shop and buy 2 dozen leeches. Get back on the lake within 30 minutes...not another fish boated on leeches for two days! :x Somebody remind me why we do this...? :lol3

You have completely missed the SPIRIT of fishing. It's not about catching fish.

I know I know bob... I always say a bad day of fishing is better than the best day at work.... but it's just amazing how that happens sometimes.

I thought the ideal was to get away from the wife, drink beer, smoke cigars and lie, the rest is just bonus

This guy doesn't think golf if frustrating ....talk about concentration and dedication!

Word is his wife escaped without any injury, and he says the divorce will be a lot easier without the house...

Once upon a time fishing was a leisure activity for me. Now it's lodged in the competitive portion of my brain. I get pretty damn pissed if I don't catch anything. One beer fixes my mood though.

I'm not like that Ron. In fact I just had that debate with my brother. He commented to me how he felt embarrassed last week when two guys fishing close to us were catching fish and we weren't. Then we started catching a bunch and they didn't and my brother goes "Whew, glad we're catching fish because that was brutal watching them. My testosterone was not handling that". ...and he went on and on about it.

I gotta tell ya...that's exactly whey I don't fish tournaments. I can't stand dealing with guys that are more driven by catching more (and bigger) fish than the next guy as if their entire existance depends on it!

That wasn't me and I didn't make the video either. Also not condoning fishing with explosives... :eviltaunt

I was looking for a clip from "Doc Hollywood"(the lake fishing scene) but couldn't find it...

Yeah I fish to relax. I've had guys I've taken fishing turn it into a competition, and since I'm the captain and fished these waters all my life, I generally catch the most anyway. :rofl

I never bait the hook.
That way, a fish won't interupt my nap.

I went through three bass boats, , and from "pleasure fishing" to "pissed off for a week if I didn't place" tournament fishing.

I finally had enough (and so did the wife, who generally out fished me), so I sold the 80 mph Champion 191SC Tournament
boat with the souped up VMax 250, and found this beautiful, hardly used 1991 Harris that we now thoroughly enjoy just
leisurely cruising around the lake.

Fishing? We do something fun now - I cut up one of the neon green foam "floaties" into 6 one foot sections. We tie
about 4 feet of catfish cord onto them with a weight midway down the line, and a catfish hook at the end. The Mrs. uses
a variety of bait, and we just toss them over the side out in the middle of the lake and then go cruising.

Half an hour to an hour later, we start looking for them, and with a boat hook, the Mrs. will snag the line and pull them up.

Out of the 6 we throw out, we usually will get 3 or 4 nice catfish that go into a 5 gal. bucket and then to the cleaning table.

No competition, no stress....just riding around on the lake having fun! :nana

Last year, we just didn't get around to breaking out the poles most of the time, so this year we didn't even buy licenses. We bring our friend Johnny (he'll be 70 in a few months), and he does the fishing.

"Hey Johnny! You got another one! Where's Miss Funicello?"

We have not missed ONE fish since we bought this boat last year. Miss Funicello (Annette - you know, the fishing net) works flawlessly.
