I fish fresh water only, have a garmin 300c it is not working good enough, it fails alot it will be doing ok showing I am in 15 ft h20, then it goes to 1ft showing fish @8ft down in the mud??? it will go good for several minutes then goes nuts over places that I have been many times.

This will change fishing forever for you.
I have an HDS 8 and love it but my buddy has one of these and Like it better.
Learning to use the side image feature has REALLY helped my fishing.

I have the Humminbird 898 (last year model) and am very happy with it. Some new upgrades for these and other Humminbird units this year as well.

If I have a Garmin mounted now, if I put a H-bird in its place would it work using wiring & transducer that is already there from the Garmin??

Garmin, Humminbird and Lowrance will have different connectors on the sonar end, and probably operate at different frequencies as well, so you will need to run the new cables. You will able to just connect the power cable to your old feed, as they all operate on 12V but the transducer will have to installed.
