I'm probably getting a new fishing boat next year so I don't want to put any money into my current one. My new boat will have a nice fish locater with GPS.

I need to start getting my fishing spots on GPS.

I need GPS suggestions for an iPhone. What are some of the better aps out there for this? (for getting and recording numbers)

Paper and pencil?

Of course, I'm a complete mouth-breathing idiot, so don't listen to me!

I think BoatUS magazine did a big article/reviews on GPS's for boating. Also try Googling it but specify in your search that you want GPS for boating, otherwise you get a lot of driving ones.

Happy fishing!

Cant speak for Apple but there are quite a few fishing apps for droid . I used fish logger pro for a bit , just havnt fished enough latly to use it much .It seemed to be a handy app you could tag a spot with gps , pics ,notes and it polled time and weather https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... hloggerpro. Honesty I would get a separate gps unit for the boat just because the better antenna and waas capability to get more accurate readings . I paid 199 for a lowrance Mark 4 HDI with gps , which is nice because you can scroll back trough the sonar history and drop a waypoint dead on . If you get the same brand you are planning on putting on your fishing boat most have the option of saving info to a sd card and moving it and then take your now old unit and mount it as a secondary unit somewhere on the boat.

Since you're fishing, take a look at the Fish Rules app. Regulations by species, depending upon your area. You can also log in your catch if you create the account. Oh, sorry .. I didn't see where you live. This app only works along Gulf states. Maybe some southern boaters can find it useful.

If you need a quick note of the LonLat where you caught that fish, take it's picture with a smartphone. The photo meta data has gps coordinates. (That's how you get the charter boat captain's numbers, not that I've ever pulled that move.)

If you're entering all your old spots into a new gps, I feel your pain. I've got about 30 out of 100 or so, that are within 5 miles of the beach. I entered a handful this weekend.
