Shack Attack!

Got the boat winterized and put away just in time for hunting season
One of my favorite times of year. Got me to thinking tho. Almost every family or group of friends in the area has a hunting Shack. I suppose it is because there is so much open land (or swamp) and so few people.
Most people around here just take it as a given. Nothing like roughing it a bit to escape the pressures of daily life.
So how many others around the forum have them? How about some shots?
Here's one of my friends' places that I stayed at last night. ..

Our original Shack that I grew up in was the old Sandsmark schoolhouse from the late 1800s. We (four families) rebuilt it and used it until it gave up the ghost for good in about 2000. We then proceeded to build a new one in the same spot. Bunks for about fourteen and a sauna for bathing.
I'll try to dig up a few more shots and post em up. I suspect that many here have never experienced this kind of luxury :drink4

Here's a shot of what's left of our old Sandsmark Shack. The schoolhouse originally was two stories.

Many many happy years there growing up bird hunting and deer hunting. I drank my first beer there in the sixties. We actually built the new one a hair back in the woods so it wouldn't get vandalized as often.

Nice place and nice memories.

I always think it's a shame that some people can't keep their d*** scratching paws off of other peoples stuff.

It's not too bad. Most people have rough enough shacks that there really isn't much to steal by the time they go home. Then come deer season, they haul a generator and wheelie out there and are good to go.

It's usually a case of some high school kids looking for booze, or just a place for them to sit and drink out of the wind. A lot of people just leave their shacks open so the doors don't get all messed up by kicking them in. The worst of it is when they burn one. Pretty rare but it does happen. Some guys are more attached to their shack than their house and would pretty much lose it if some dickhead torched the mancave.

Some shacks are unbelievably remote (ours is on a gravel county road). I have friends where you need to run 5 or 10 miles of mud rutted crap to get there. Only a wheeler or a sled will make it. Too tight for a truck.
