Hi Everyone,

Cabelas has a Garmin 53dv fish finder with lake maps and topo already loaded onto the unit on sale for 279.00. It was a regular 500.00 unit!

i just bought this one and have only had 2 trips out but so far i like it a lot, the chirp works real nice, i especially like the 3 D screen for looking over a new fishing spot

I read the other day that lowrance just won a settlement in federal court regarding their "chirp."

Basically, garmin tells their customers that they get a full hi-res image, but the reality is that their chirp image is a synthetic image. To get the good image, lowrance will integrate the side scan and downscan data to get the best hi-res image possible below the boat. Garmin only uses the side scan component and not the downscan part. They basically fake the downscan component through data interpolation. Therefore, you miss out on A LOT of detail. There is a video online you should look up before you buy the Garmin. It is pretty shocking on the difference.
