Re: Garmin 53dv at Cabelas
I read the other day that lowrance just won a settlement in federal court regarding their "chirp."
Basically, garmin tells their customers that they get a full hi-res image, but the reality is that their chirp image is a synthetic image. To get the good image, lowrance will integrate the side scan and downscan data to get the best hi-res image possible below the boat. Garmin only uses the side scan component and not the downscan part. They basically fake the downscan component through data interpolation. Therefore, you miss out on A LOT of detail. There is a video online you should look up before you buy the Garmin. It is pretty shocking on the difference.
