Adding Downriggers

#1 Post by RAM1961 » Mon Jan 18, 2010 12:51 pm

I'm looking to add downriggers to the 'toon....one on each side. I've got a 20' Lowe Suncruiser that's the fishing model - looking for any and all advice from those who've installed downriggers on their 'toon. How mounted, minimum boom length, mount in front or back and so on.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

I actually have some floor mount risers for down riggers that I took of my old boat. They are basically about 2-3' long/high about 3" around (Stainless steel) that you could mount on your bow or stern and then they have a plate at the top your downriggers would bolt on to.

If you are interested, I can pull them down from my attic and take some pictures of them if you want.

we added them to the front of are toon this summer, i will take pictures next time we are out. I fabed them up from scratch with aluminum tubing and plates with the top section removable from the bottom. we are also going to use the same mounting brackets to be able to attach the barbaque.

I developed a mount that actually mounts thru both the top and bottom rails along the side. They work well and hold up well as I found out a couple weeks ago - was fishing in 150' of water at 100' and out of nowhere I found myself in 32' of water. Broke the line on one downrigger - both bounced hard when downrigger balls hit but the mounts held up nicely - no damage to my mounts, the downriggers, and most importantly the rails on each side. I'd put up a pic, but apparently I need to put them out an the internet first.

I really would appreciate a photo of either of these pontoon downrigger mounts. Have been searching for a solution.

Are either of them for sale?

thanks

I just got a new Walker downrigger that I plan to mount of the back of my new Sylvan 20' toon. I want to make the mount as simple as possible and plan to fashion a hardword platform that I can attach in the corner of the rail. I will post some pics as soon as I get it done.

I made some mounts for mine. Right behind the captains chair where you can adjust them while watching the graph. The prop won't cut the line there if a fish pops the release in a turn. Real solid, even stiffened up the rail.
