I wonder if they are good eating compared to smaller catfish? I personally prefer the smaller kind deep fried and battered. :)

The current world record Blue Cat is 124lbs. He's got it beat if it passes all of the IGFA rules. They're real sticklers.

I personally prefer the smaller ones for deep fry. This is a nice one which I have never tried out. Well I think I will get it soon if it is available nearer to my home place. I wish it would not be the bad experience. This is looking too big so I wondering that my whole family will be able to enjoy it if I make it for everyone.

I was watching a show with some fishing the amazon for some "monster" catfish. He actually caught it and it was WAY bigger than that one.

Just searched and couldn't find the clip I was talking about, but did find this:

I don't think that's the same guy I remember on the show either.

Note to self... stay away from the Amazon!!

Once those catfish get much bigger than 8-10 pounds, they taste like mud to me. Like bluefish in the Chesapeake Bay, only eat the small ones!

As far as Blue Cats go I live right off the lake that holds the current world record , Kerr Lake (buggs island) which is 143 pounds , 3 weeks ago a guy caught a 135 pounder here.

Thats a very nice fish record or not--

I fish for Blue cat almost exclusively most of the year and my biggest is 47lbs--
I can't imagine having that on end of my rod--
I often wonder if Jimmy really did crack corn, and why should I care?

My grandfather caught a 95 pound blue cat on a trotline in about 1919--before Wilson Dam was completed.

Our neighbor was having a fish fry for the local Gideons, and he'd not been catching any catfish (via trotline). That morning, he went out and there was a 45 pound spoonbill catfish on his line. He had it filet'd, and the taste was wonderful fried.

The only good tasting big catfish is the spoonbill. The others have an oily, fishy taste.

Yeah, I let the big ones go and keep catfish in the 12-18 range for eating. MD considers all blue and flathead catfish as "invasive" and wants fisherman to kill any they catch.
