Fishing - Matapeake, Kent Island Chesapeake Bay 6-30-2011

Thursday evening, took a trip down to the middle Chesapeake with my younger brother and his hockey buddies, fishing reports said bay salinity levels are at record lows due to the heavy spring rains. No kidding..expecting saltwater fish as usual, we caught freshwater fish (striped bass, catfish and white perch) first time since I was a kid we've caught catfish that far south on the bay's mainstem. Still, not a bad mess of fish:

Nice catch, especially those kitties,

I think Stripper is a saltwater fish that lives in freshwater actually

Yeah.

Stripers, however are anadromous in the Chesapeake. They are born in fresh water and spend the better part of their life in the ocean. Stripers stocked in inland lakes are usually fish taken from areas like the Chesapeake (not referring to hybrids). All Pennsylvania lakes and all Maryland lakes are stocked with Chesapeake strain stripers. They are not native to inland lakes.
