Place I Don't Want to Be

#1 Post by Drago » Sat Jul 12, 2014 7:29 pm

We spent a few days around the 4th in Destin and Navarre Florida. We were passing over the bridge over Destin harbor when Joy snapped this pix. She mentioned it just looked a bit crowded for our taste. Wild but fun I'm sure!!

Lol, the admiral and I spent a little time in Destin on our vacation. That island is called Crab Island, and as you can see, it is a very popular place for boaters. We were there around the 4th and it was busier than that if you could believe it. We tried to rent a kayak, but it was far too treacherous with all the boat traffic. I do envy those people in that part of the world for getting to boat in such beautiful waters...especially compared to our incredibly murky, muddy lakes around here where the fishing is terrible.

Crab Island is quite the experience! We anchored up and had a great time there Saturday before Memorial Day. Just inside the Destin Pass, the tide moves a lot of water through there. Two anchors and put your fenders out.

An excellent place for people watching as they walk, float or stagger by. Concessions come to you by skiff. Bands or DJs on the barge-stage. Ice and beer sold at floating convenience store. Everything you need for all day is on the water.

Each boat brings a different party. By the end of the day we had been blocked in, so we waded our boat to clear water.
