I have next week off. I hope to be out on the Harris Chain of Lakes.

Was looking at the map of the Harris chain yesterday, as a matter of fact! Love to get over there and camp/do the whole chain one day, (and/or, just come over for a weekend pontoon party!). Let me know if there is anything concrete in the planning stage! :thumbsup

I took mine to the Harris Chain last saturday and we had a great time. You can cover the chain in a day and there are a bunch of restaurants. The "dumpiest" one on the chain is Palm Gardens, but in our opinion the food is the best and the location cant be beat. You sit about 20' from the boat right on the dead river so you get to see all the boat traffic.

There is a boat club up there called the chain of lakes boat club, you may want to look them up because it seemed like they had a lot of boats riding with them each time I've seen them out there.

I looked them up, and they are a time-share boat club, so no owner operators to talk to really. Their events are called by the boat club primaries, and are for members only apparently. Couldn't find anything about upcoming events, so they must communicate via an email or text list.

Give us a heads up next time you plan on going. May or may not work out any given time, but we'll surely make it work sometime.

We've camped at Lake Griffin State Park before, and I'd love to drag the camper over, get it set up, then come back and get the boat for a long weekend. Or ... if there a good place to tent camp out on one of the lakes, that could work too!

And it figures that the place that has the upscale name is actually the dumpiest AND that it has the best food! Probably the coldest beer, too! :biggrin2

I do see this is an old thread, and I have been away for a while. One of my favorites is the St Johns river from hwy 40 just East of Ocala.

I would not suggest the Withlacooche, as it is very shallow and some rocky spots just South of hwy 200.

Florida does have a bunch of water to be explored.

Withlacoochee has lots of fallen trees and some are going to be 'in the way and down under' which is not good. Very beautiful area and very fishy. I wouldn't want to throttle up on that river...
