Heading to University of Arkansas on Friday to take our daughter on her first official college visit on Saturday morning. We went last year just to check things out and loved the University. She has been busting the books hoping to get a scholarship, She takes her second ACT next month. She got a 27 her first time around as a sophmore. Hopefully she can attend her dream school for free. Although her love is gymnastics her skills just weren't good enough for scholarships, so she is relying on her book smarts to get in. She is one of the youngest registered Gymnastics coaches in KS. Luckily she timed it so she can catch the Arkansas team compete Friday as well. Anyone in Fayetteville free on Friday let me know?

Parenting done right :thumbsup I'm in the same boat...my son loves football and lacrosse but I've been preaching to him even if he could earn a sports scholarship that a sports carrier can end in an instant. You have to have something to fall back on and education is pretty damn good insurance policy. Like you, I'm lucky to have an extremely intelligent child on my hands. He's been involved in every gifted program available to him and took his first ACT last year (7th grade) and scored a 21. Now he's in 8th grade and he takes his first SAT this Saturday. It's almost sad that kids have to grow up so fast and early these days, but we have to do our best to give them the tools to get the most possible out of life. Plus he wants to go to Notre Dame and Lord knows I need some help with that bill! Best wishes on your visit, hope everything goes well. Good things are definitely coming her way...with a 27 right out of the gate you're obviously doing something right buddy!!!

Thanks Ty! She wants to be a FBI agent! :paranoid But is fluent in Spanish as well. That I think is what is going to carry her further. Not too many 5' 8" blonds that can hear every word of a conversation in a Mexican restaurant. One time someone was taking about her in Spanish and she lit into him! :rofl If next year schedule goes as planned she will enter as a 2nd semester freshman. ND yikes! Good luck to you as well!

When we were in college, 15 of us went on a weekend long road trip--to the University of Arkansas. That was a big party weekend--Sadie Hawkins Day.

Needless to say, we were impressed. The Arkansas students were great, and they didn't have one bit of attitude like you'd get at Vanderbilt or SMU. Arkansas students are normal people when in school--and after they get out.

I've since worked in Bentonville/Rogers area many times over the years. With 400,000 people in the region, it's bigger than Little Rock. And it's one of the really booming middle size cities in the U.S. business wise.

Tell your daughter to study hard and go for it academically. I had close friends that were extremely good in gymnastics--Olympic quality in their specialties. They only took about 2 days off per year, and practices were more than grueling. I wouldn't wish gymnastics or competitive swimming on any college student.

I am only a couple hours from Fayetteville and my little bro is a Junior on the Baseball team. He loves it of course and I have two teenage kids that will probably go there as well.

Its a really nice area to attend college and also land a great job when your graduation.

Great to see some Arkansas people on this forum. I was born a raised in Fort Smith which is only an hour from Fayetteville. Still have lots of family back there and it'll always be "home". Great memories of camping and boating on Lake TenKiller, which I've seen mentioned on here quite a bit. Woo Pig Sooie!!!!

Not from Arkansas, but definitely a Razorback having attended the U of A in the early 60's, before transferring back to Iowa. Like Bret Bielema, I am a Hawkeye and a Hog.
