1986 Sun Tracker Party Barge

#1 Post by ROBBSRACINGENGINES » Tue Mar 26, 2013 3:28 pm

So I bought this old pontoon at a boat dealer a few years back. I knew absolutely nothing about pontoon boats. First pic is from the day I bought it while it was still at the dealer. I rebuilt the entire toon, new floor, carpet, interior the whole nine yards. It was hard work but the outcome was pretty rewarding. I also learned all the things not to do or to do on the next one. This one has been sold and I am working on the next one now.

Nice work. Your boat looks so . . . . . contemporary. Nobody would know what year model it is.

And that's why pontoons are such good values. You can easily rework the furniture, paint them and repower and go again.

Awesome job man, it's amazing how much newer a vinyl wrap can make an old toon look...I followed your builds on the other forum, you are one of the guys who inspired me, to work on my boat and eventually get a wrap!!! :nana :nana :nana

Robbs....

Im in the EXACT same place you began with this one. I bought the same boat last year, 28' however and have the floor, walls, about everything broken down and off. It would be awesome if you could fill me in on how you obtained and carried out your painting of the pontoons (which looks awesome) and adding graphic to your panels. Im kinda stuck on what to do at the moment and this gives me some inspiration. Holler at me if ya can. Thx

His pontoons are polished not painted, I know his fence frames are painted white. As for the graphics any sign shop that does wraps can hook ya up. I'm going to wrap mine this year, I've just got to make sure I'm 100% sure on my design and sure I'm done modding my rails!

Sorry I have been busy lately and not much time for the pc.

First off like Mrtoler said the tubes are polished not painted. It was a shit load of work but they did look awesome. I am going to do it to my current toon also but it is A LOT OF WORK.

The fencing and rub rail I painted white. They did look real good but it wasn't very durable. As time passed they started to chip here and there and then it looked bad. (I have a slight case of OCD so it may have been just that) I wouldn't do it again.

The wrap, absolutely do it. Its expensive but thats what made the toon look so good. I am getting ready to do my current toon also.
