Ferg's Winter Project

#1 Post by fergusmj » Sun Aug 18, 2013 7:24 pm

Hey all,

Just joined the forum recently as I started looking at pontoon boats, My wife and I have been on a few family vacations where we've rented pontoons and also gone out with some friends on a pontoon that we've rented. Unfortunately, the rental pontoons are usually pretty junky and low powered. Either way, we wanted to get one to enjoy more frequently without having to pay $300 a day for rental.

We started looking for used pontoons, but couldn't find anything we wanted for a decent price. I wanted a tritoon with a 150hp. Needless to say, that setup was a lot of money.

I started reading these forums and realized that I could build a boat over the winter. So we found a new pontoon chassis for sale and bought it.

I lucked out and was able to get some fence a the same time as the chassis. Here she is with the fencing strapped down.

Here she is loaded up and hooked up to her future tow vehicle.

Here she is with the fencing laid out to see how it will look. It will sit like this for a while as my wife and I are wanting to build this boat without using a credit card or dipping into our savings, so we will build it bit by bit over the winter. We need to get some carpeting for the front 2/3rds of the boat first and then we'll get the rub rail bolted down, but that will wait for a month or so.

I look forward to learning more here and getting to know people

Setting yourself up to have a great 2014! I've had runabouts for years, finally went to a ponton and agree that you've got the right length & hp set up.

Looks almost the exact same except for some difference in the fence design. Hopefully the guy that bought that one will post his process here too.

Thinking in the next few weeks I'm going to try and start de-labeling everything on the fencing. Anyone ever try to remove the "South Bay" letters? I'm assuming some goo gone, WD40, etc will be required with a lot of elbow grease.

The normal stickers should be easy, but the South Bay and a few of the other emblems look like they may be some trouble.

This'll give me something to do until the availability of the furniture and fun electronics stuff.

was able to snag it at the same time as the pontoon chassis. Benefits of living in the state where all of the manufacturers are at.

Also like the model of what I'm assuming is your tow vehicle too ! :thumbsup

What state are you in?

I cant say as I am 100% happy with it but its a good truck! I have had all four window regulators crap out on my and I just paid $350 for new spark plugs to be installed (who ever heard of $25 each for spark plugs OR having them break in half when you try to take them out???? :x At least those problems are in my past and I can enjoy the truck for years to come (fingers crossed)
