MY RIVIERA CRUISER

#1 Post by rockhound » Fri Jun 06, 2014 8:12 pm

So the new to me boat is here, and the first delivery from pontoon stuff has shipped :)

the rebuild is going to start a little slow mainly because she is in decent shape and does not need to be demolished right away. will be going through her top to bottom after the season

1997 24 foot riviera cruiser, still trying to figure out exactly which model she started out as. Tenesee trailer to match.

1. newly rebuilt rochester carb, tuned for colorado altitude, should be here in a few days
2. going through all the electrical cause i keep finding crap like this:

Image

3. new switches (on their way)
4. new steering wheel ( on its way)
5. new paneling and graphics
6. repairing the fencing, hinges, pinch guards, gate stops (on their way)
7. new 20 ft bimini
8. new prop (on its way)
9. new navigation lighting
10. new carpeting (after the season) the carpet is actually new, but i can tell that there is delamination in the decking underneath, so deck and carpet after the season
11. replacing all the bolts (on their way)
12. underskinning has some missing or misplaced screws
13. polishing the toons
14. all new seating, the seats are in good shape, but they were salvaged from a different boat and they do not fit and they prevent one gate from being usable, this may or may not be a this season thing.
15. PO was a bit sloppy in his keeping a boat so there is some missing hardware here and there, that just wont do at all, i am pretty sure the boat will last longer with the proper hardware installed.
16. PO told me the blower works fine, HMMM hard to do when it has been removed, she is an I/O so the new blower just arrived also.

she is big, but i managed to get her into the shop for repairs. makes getting in to the electrical a lot easier and will make the off season carpet job way easier.

I am not proud, ill take the 10% :biggrin2

first upgrades are coming along.

i decided to open up the front deck as a large swim platform for the kids, there was about 3 feet on the front, outside the play pen, but with four of them out there it would be crowded.

I removed the side gates, we wont use them any way... This gave me 30 additional inches on the swim platform. so nice... this may be the best thing I ever do to the toon.

we wound up with a 18 foot playpen, five and half feet of swimdeck.

started polishing the toons

realized real quick that the PO thought he was cool cleaning the toons with a sander. i have my work cut out for me.

3000 grit wet sanding seems to be doing the trick, but i am going to run out of material real fast. this will not be a get her done in one sitting kind of thing.

the best section so far:

the back half is getting there:

I am not going to give in, my job leaves me a lot of free time, i will get thing thing back into shape.

some quick projects finished up tonight

the bad electrical connections were remove, posi-locks connectors installed and then sheathed in waterproof adhesive lined shrink wrap:

so this type of bs that is found all over the boat:

now looks like this:

I also installed some new navigation lights up front. the PO mangled the bow rails trying to drill through them and instal some bs lighting.

here are the new flush mounted stainless nav lights:

also all new switches in the console:

that is it for the day....

Thanks, the boat has a lot of really bad work done to her, I hate to use it looking the way she does, but given the shortness of our boating season she will have to do until I can drydock her for the winter

She is nearly ready to splash for the season. last little upgrades necessary will be done to day hopefully.

i got ambitious and replaced the skin on the fencing, I made a strange decision and left the original skin in place to add structural rigidity to the new paneling. the original was not bent up but ugly.

the kiddos helped a lot with this little project

here are a few quick photos of the new skin:

she is not done by a long shot, would have had her in the water a lot sooner, but had to go to Hawaii :)

ANYWAY she is out of the shop and headed to the lake in the morning, Nothing major, just a quick run down to the nearest reservoir for a hake down trip, will make a full speed pass ot two play with the trim and get the kiddos on the tube to see how she runs,

timed the engine, fires and runs everytime it seems
new ski bar
installed the new fuel pressure regulator,
new prop
new 12 foot bimini
finished up new dock lines,
new bumpers and fence savers
yada yada yada, here is what she looks like today:
