Rebuilding my boat, need advice.

I am getting ready to lay my vinyl from pontoonstuff. The floor is smooth, where the walking traffic is, and kinda smooth under furniture, however there are a few spots, that part of the top layer of plywood came off with carpet. and a few spots that could use some smoothing out.

I got the 80 mil stuff to help cover some of the imperfections, what can I use to smooth the other areas? I am talking about maybe 6 sq ft (total) worst area is maybe an 1/8", most is less than that.

PS sent foam tape to cover seams, but that will provide a bump at the seams, In my opinion, I was going to knock the seams down with my belt sander, should I fill the seam with a bondo type material or leave them be.

Thanks for your help

Steve

Bondo and a belt sander will work.

Just make sure the mastic (glue) you use to install the vinyl flooring is the right one for vinyl flooring on plywood. There are a dozen different mastics on the market--not all of which will work for you.

You'll also need to use a 100 pound flooring roller after the floor is installed--to get out all the bubbles and make the flooring grip the plywood.

Yes, I ordered the correct mastic from PS, for wood floor. I am going to get roller before I start.

Thanks for the reply.

Durhams Rock-Hard water putty.

Or maybe not. Might not be perfect for the deck of a boat.

I may be misunderstanding but the tape goes under the wood decking on the angles or hat channels. Correct me if I am misunderstanding that post!

I rented a floor sander with some medium paper and sanded my new decking before gluing the vinyl down. Make sure you use all the glue, a little thick , spread evenly, is way better than too thin.

My floor was so beat up after tearing off the carpet that I ended up using a couple gallons of some glop or other just to level it a bit. Carpet backing still left on with SouthBay mega-glue wouldn't sand off even with a big floor sander.
My only hope was good thick flooring, which the PS stuff is.
