New member, first boat, first boat rebuild!

#1 Post by Barry » Sun May 10, 2015 5:07 pm

Hi everybody. We got this boat a couple of years ago. We knew the floor had some soft spots in it when we got it. But, we figured we would fix it over that winter. Well, then we bought a house, and had to remodel it, and just general life getting in the way, here it is two years later! But, now the boat is home and ready for the remodel. Its an 18' Bass Buggy with a 40 house Evinrude. Cant remember for sure but thinking the boat, motor, and trailer are all 88 models. The plan is to tear it down to the bare toons, redeck it, carpet, new furniture, new wiring harness, new lights, everything. Ive never done a boat before, so this could get exciting! Looking to learn a lot here.

Welcome! If you have questions someone will have answers.

There are several rebuilds posted here. I have one, It can be fun, some hard work and very satisfying when complete.

Ya, its an air horn that plays Dixie. Not sure if it will be there after the rebuild or not.

Well, its been awhile, but I have made some progress... I stripped it all the way down to the bare bones. No wood, no wires, nothing. I found an underdeck ladder on craigslist to put on it. But then I realized that I didn't like the idea of having to step over and around the point of the bow.

So, I had to do a little fabrication work. I also cleaned up the toons a little. Its not show quality by any means, but its better than it was. And, lets face it, they will get nasty again.

Now, I have the front bow piece done and the new floor on.

I already have the carpet kit. Just waiting for the time to put it on. Hoping for this next weekend.

Be sure to use the proper mastic for the job and roll the carpet down with a 100 lb. flooring (tile) roller.

I got the glue from PS. Its what came in the kit, with the glue, carpet, risers, ect. And definitely on the roller!
