Adding a Kitchen on a 24" Harris

#1 Post by mofn » Thu May 14, 2015 2:25 pm

The attached photo shows the stove (2 burner) and oven. I have had this unit for 3 years now. I'm putting everything in one area on the boat. No more tables, like the stove is on here in the photo. As part of this to make room we are putting a sundeck on the back to increase storage, that frees up deck space.
When done this table, and 2 large coolers used for dry storage will be off the boat. A third cooler used to ice drinks will be under a seat. The front ten feet here of the boat will still be open. We like the open space, we configure as we go- just us, or with kids, with others.

This was what it looked like in the rear. The bench seat along the back was a old wooden one I took care of so it lasted. I hid a 12 gallon fuel tank under it. The large cooler is one that is going.

That's the beauty of a free society. you can make your boat to be anything you want it to be, Imagination is your only hindrance. Good for you! Its looking good! Biscuits and bacon on an overnight trip might be just the ticket! YUM! :drool

Had a little issue posting up more photos, this should work now?
Along this side no longer have 2 bench seats, just one. The new one is here in the pic. When we were up the other day had the wrong size screws. I',m using 3/4 strips of plywood (scrap left over from sun deck) using those to raise the seats up off the floor. This way air get to these section, I hate the green mold/moss/algee that forms on the edge when on the floor.
This is all experimental, trying different things now before I re-deck it in a year or two. Trying to come up with ways of not screwing thru the deck?
The square object in the lower part of the pic is the top of a stainless steel restaurant kitchen table. It's called a kitchen station filler, very narrow, and small with a lip on it. This one comes with a adjustable second level under it for storage of the floor. It goes up against the bench seat. If you want one of these shop around the price range is crazy! Mine was $85 with $30 to ship it. I saw the same size item in the $500 range thru other sellers
I had 9 inches cut off the bottom legs so the top was below the railing, and lower the center of gravity. The legs bottoms cut off, are used on a third item in the "Kitchen".

You can do anything with this setup. Oven size is a issue, but you work around it. We do pies in it, full size and the small 3inch ones when its just us. Pizza, cheese bread, different potato dishes, any frozen app in the stores, shepherds pie etc etc . On top have done mussels in wine, the different fancy Birds-eye veggies, grill-cheese, jiffy-pop, pan fried scallops. Running everything off a 20 pounder with a "Y".

No photo yet for this item, will be later.
If you are thinking of a grill on the boat, this is what we did. After shopping around and doing a lot of measurements we ended up with a Cuisinart CGG 220. I wanted the CGG 306, more on that later.
The key to buying this grill was the stand it comes with, the CGG 180T ($60). There's a second one they sell but has a wider footprint. The stand is a lot nicer than described by the company. I could not believe how thin it is when folded up. It was F-Bomb city when I opened it up, because is was so thin I thought they sent the wrong item.
The 220 is designed for this stand, and locks in. I wanted this due to the high center of gravity, and where its higher than the railing. The 20 pounder is locked in a holder under it.
The 306 is not designed for this stand, do not believe what you may read, it does not lock. I called them, and asked (If you are in Mass the Grill Dept is in Newton Center) It just sits on top, not a option for me. The minute they make a stand for the 306, and it fits my space their will be a used 220 for sale
This stand alone changed everything I had things designed, and all the metal work that was going to be done (over 1k). I also saved a lot of weight, my total added is 18-20 lbs (exchanged the weight of the seat taken out). Total invested $60 Stand $115 ish table, $30? for a third item later.

To increase floor space have started to add the "U" of the sundeck. Here the welding I had done to mount them on.

With the "U" they company that makes them wanted to sell me a flat railing for the back so these were flush.
1 Did not want to cut up the back for no real reason
2 Was not going to spend $300?
So this is what it looks like. The metal guy added a metal wall to what was the open end of the "U". Due to it not being flush.
You will see the wood bottom of the "U" for a year or two. When I redeck it, underneath the "U" will be redone so its square, and the new metal edge will expend down and around the square.
Trying to work all the kinks out now, so if I have to screw thru the new deck the least amount of holes in it. Will be up at the boat in about to weeks adding the grill and stove getting it set up.

All I have to do is tweak some placement issues. So things open up better. Also going to have a one piece cover made the will cover everything. The same material that you get with grills covers. I also have a dishwasher on-board, but she did not want here picture taken :)
If you think you are going to do anything like this with custom metal work, get a price first!!!!!!!! Had I done what I had first planned on.... 2K no problem. Tables and stands here $200 tops.
