1988 Intec Island Cruiser

#1 Post by Lt. Dan » Fri Jun 12, 2015 10:53 am

Hi guys, I thought I would start this thread to get things going on my toon. I am looking to reupholster the seats as the bases are fine (roto molded from a Bentley) but the vinyl is in sad shape with the seams coming apart and a lot of mildew. I also plan on a new console and captains chair, stereo, new fence panels, convert it to rear entry, slide out ladder on the front, LEDs, and maybe a few other things.

First question. What is a good source for seat vinyl? I plan to do the work myself and may just use one color to make things easier. I know about Pontoon Stuff and the discount and plan to use them for some of the things I need.

You'll just need to Google upholstery vinyl to find sources for it.

Nobody local carries good quality naugahyde.

Very Intersting! I would like to see some photographic progress as you go, or at least some finish pics. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, I ordered and received a number of things for the boat. I bought gauges, stereo, and speakers from Amazon and a slide in ladder, Captain's seat and pedestal, large console, switch panel, lights, and glove box from Pontoonstuff. The seats may wait until this fall. I was hoping to get everything installed over the next 6 days while I am off, but the console has not been shipped and they have no idea when it will be available. It would have been nice to know that up front instead of a week after the order was placed. Everything else was sent right away. Any ideas for a large console? The other style at Pontoonstuff is not as wide as I was looking for.

Hi Lt. Dan

I believe I've got your order in front of me right now and we are going to get it shipped out of here today (would you please email me with your order number though to make sure I've got the right one, jim.myers@pontoonstuff.com), I apologize for the lack of information and the delay (I will also email the address we have on file right now). You will receive an email from us this afternoon with the tracking number.

Also, we actually have a custom fit switch panel for this new larger console and I'd like to give it to you for the same price as the smaller one you purchased. You can keep the smaller one if you like or we can pick it up from you, whatever is more convenient (maybe you know someone who could use it). You can see the new panel with USB by clicking the link for the helm, we just got this up:

Please let me know if you'd prefer this custom fit panel and I'll make sure it goes out today with the helm stand.

Thank you for your business and again I'm sorry for this delay.

Thank you James. You made my day!

I received an email from James earlier today before I saw his post. I really appreciate him taking the time to personally take care of the problem and his offer of the new switch panel which I was not aware of when I initially placed the order.

Just got finished installing the new trim pump motor so now I can jump on installing that Pontoonstuff ladder.

I am rebuilding/updating a '83 Landau 24 ft. and rebuilt all the seat bases and backs using pressure treated wood, and needed to reupholster. Joann Fabrics has Marine grade vinyl in several different colors at $20 per yard. They also sell high density foam for seats, but it is VERY expensive, 3 inch thick by 24 wide is $48 a yard, up to 2 1/2 yard pieces, coupons are online to save you some money. Thank goodness my wife knows about this kind of stuff!

Well, I have had some delays and some changes in plan but I have gotten a few things done. I am now on a first name basis with the Fedex and UPS drivers.
I had been holding off on installing the console and seat as I changed my plans on gauges for the console. I do have part of that done.
This is the new Large console from Pontoonstuff. I really like this console. It is made of very thick plastic and is very sturdy. I plan to have 4 gauges in the center (Tach, Speedo, depth readout, and volt meter) and 2 more on the left (fuel gauge, and trim gauge). I might also fit in a water pressure gauge.

This is a JBL stereo with Bluetooth. To the left of it is a USB port and an audio jack. I also purchased a JBL amp to go with it and four 6.5" speakers.

This is the new switch panel that Pontoonstuff came up with that is designed to fit the new large console. I really like this panel. It has a lit USB port, 12v port, and 7 switches. The switches light up when they are on. Resettable breakers under each switch and port. I also bought the pontoon wiring harness which plugs right in to the switch panel harness.

I guess I really need to take a few pics of the boat.

It's been a while since I updated this thread. Here are a couple of pics of the boat. This was from a few months ago. We had just taken it out for a short run.
You can see the new console from Pontoonstuff.com. It still wasn't finished at this point.

I finished the console (for now). I think it looks great! I had contacted Pontoonstuff.com about a wood grain panel for some gauges to match the switch panel. I found out that they were working on a gauge package for this panel that is made for the new large console and here it is.

I bought a matching fuel gauge and decided to swap it with the depth gauge so that everything motor related would be in one place. I mounted the depth gauge near the stereo leaving room for a trim gauge.

Here is the whole console. I am looking to repower in the next couple of months and will probably go with a console mounted control.
