What all prep work was involved for the logs?

Also, why type of paint did you use on them? Seems like it would have to be tough.

Ok...so go in the shop this morning and pull all the tape off the rails...set them up on the deck and Decide I do not like the dark brown on the skin  all that tape I just pulled off I have to re tape it all again....go to the automotive paint store and pick out a color that is more inline with the big $$$$$ tracker boat....this is what I came up with...looks better ...
Then tomorrow pull all that tape off and tape off the skin "light color" then prep and prime the rails then paint the rails the dark brown...lol

We prepared the aluminum by sanding with 320 grit then apply a aluminum automotive two part primer then the top coat is also automotive two part...

Ok so I have to ask, since there are so many people restoring pontoon boats it seems.

Can you just roll out some sheet aluminum, or sheet steel, and use that to make a new fence? I mean keep the frame, but use some new sheet metal? Just curious in case mine ever gets any of those big dents that you see in some older boats fences. Yours doesn't seem to have any, but when I was looking at boats before I bought mine, lots of them had big dents in the sheet metal of the fence.

Thanks....yes I read up on the Copper reaction to aluminum , and the primer and top coat is made to go over aluminum and galvanized metal .....

So basically its car paint. I guess pontoons just don't go fast enough for wear on the paint to be a problem

That looks really nice my friend! Job well done! What type of preventative maintenance do you need and also, what will long term effects be on the paint from being wet all the time?

Thanks soonertoon....well with all the prep work we did and with the paints we used hopefully not a lot of maintenance to be done other than occasionally applying some wax couple times a year...where I live and will use the boat is fresh water and will live most of the time on the trailer when not in use...I do know I got a good "bite" with the paint as it passes the scratch test...Will not scratch off :nana ....but time will tell...lol...

Just ordered the stripes, graphics and the registration numbers from US Boats....waiting for the vinyl to come in also...
Would like to order all new furniture but that's not in the budget :donno .... :(

Guess I should add some before pictures to this thread...I added some when I joined up to the Welcome area..

In regards to getting the boat off the trailer. Is it really necessary? Couldn't it be tore down while still on the trailer? If you weren't going to paint the pontoons. Most people just polish theirs up.

Seems to me like the full resto could be done on the trailer. Most of the parts get taken off anyway.

No don't think it's necessary, but for me it was as I want to make sure I painted all the toon...I ended up just putting 4x4s under the toons and that worked well...
