1988 PlayBuoy Sportfisher makeover.

#1 Post by toondown4what » Sat Sep 05, 2015 9:54 am

Boater insanity has set in. I purchased the boat, trailer and motor for $2800. The boat was re-decked and carpeted last year. A little over a week ago I ordered everything make over the boat into our dream lake cruiser. I *think* I've spent about $3500 on items for the make over. It's getting a L shaped couch filling the rear and up the port side with a lean back (88"X92") and 2 38" bench's up front. New Helm and flip flop style seat for the captain. I will be using the overton's Toonmate Premium Pontoon furniture (selected because their corner sections come in 25" which is what I needed to have 88" along the rear of the boat. I *think* these are make by wise and branded for overton's. I ordered them during the 20% off sale a week or so back.

Here's is a stock picture of the seat color's I selected.

Everything is is hand or en-route with the shipping company. I hope to get started on the make over next weekend.
Here's my "quick" punch list of work to be done;
New Piano hinge on front door
Install 25” corner
Install 38” Bench
Install 25” corner
Install 50” Bench
Install Lean back
Install 38” Bench
Install 38” Bench
Template console (Steering, Radio, Switches, Tachometer, Depth Sounder)
Install Console
Install Steering system
Install Steering Wheel
Install OMC Controls (get idle throttle working)
Install Switch Panel
Install Tachometer
Install Depth Sounder
Install 4 Speakers
Install Radio
Install Horn
Install 2nd battery and modify how batteries sit in battery box
Relocate Battery charger
Install Add a Battery

I still need to figure out what I am going to do about holes in the floor under the old console and where the fishing seats went. I'm thinking of just putting a pedestal base like this in

Overton's. I'm pissed off this morning. turns out the kids (adult kids living at home) haven't charged the cordless phones and they have been lying around dead. 5 voicemail's from fed-ex about delivery. could have had everything last thrusday. instead I get it tomorrow.

Seats and such will be here tomorrow. Prepping everything I can.

Opinions wanted. Keep the Power Trim up / Down tag on or off?

Started tearing out the old to make room for the new. The Seat pedestals gave me a little bit of grief. the bolts were rushed and the screw heads would just strip out. So I drilled the heads off and used a BFH to get them out. 1 more pedestal to go. Found a cluster F^&% of wiring under the console. a 12V hot just laying there next to it's ground partner.

Have most of the tear down complete. Under the console was a disaster.

Unable to get the steering wheel separated from the console. Have PB Blaster soaking on it and then I will tap with a hammer and pull.

Best part of the day was the UPS semi coming down my road with 2 pallets. The downer is that I am still missing the 2 corner sections I need for the rear. I called up overton's to check thier status to discover the order was canceled because they are out of stock. I wanted 90 degree corners. So instead I had to order radius corners. This will leave a minor gap. But oh well. they said they will ship tomorrow and be 3-5 days.

Fitting the seats and playing with location. Still waiting on the rear corners. It's going to be cramped in the seat behind the helm. Oh Well. EDIT. I went out and tested and I can sit back there :D

Almost done. Everything is wired and tested. adding the 2nd battery and the add a battery kit was a full day task. Moving the console from the center presented a challenge in how to cover the 3 holes underneath it, My solution was to fill the holes with water proof wood putty and then cover them with painted door knob protector wall plates. All I have left to do is ziptie the speaker wires under the boat, Add a couple more bolts to the console, Install the remaining seats, Cut out speaker holes and install speakers. I expect the boat to be back in the water tomorrow.
