I can't swing the same size dia. prop as you as I'm not in a CT foot but I'm curious what size prop your running? You've got decent speed but it appears that your running out of ass before reaching ideal WOT of 6K... Have you tried any other props?

Being pound foolish instead of penny wise I've already tired 5 props (2 from the 60) out on my new motor to find what I felt was the sweet spot for the 75 which was a 14" dia x 12" pitch as once I opened up the intake tract my RPM went right to ideal 75 WOT of 5500 RPM @ 27.9 MPH with the restricter I was 5200 @ 26.8 MPH... I tried both an 11 & 13 pitch only to see the same speeds just at different RPM's...

Also really thinking about getting one of those Mercury Smart Craft gauges if for no other reason than to have the abilty to see fuel consumption as well as RPM in digital format so that I can see in real time where the gallons go in relationship to speed & RPM....
No I haven't tried another prop yet, dealership wanted me to raise the engine up one hole but before I do that. I'm going to see what the flash does for me and then I'll chase the perfect prop for the horse power.

I've also thought about the smart craft, for no other reason then troll control.

If your motor is all the way down in the lowest hole I would tend to agree with them.... The 60 was mounted at its lowest point and while cutting off the V deflector helped with trim issues that motor was just too deep and ran really wet.... The 75 has the same foot as the 60 did but it is mounted up one hole and while it does not suffer blowout the usable trim is limited to a very small band but it just sounds and behaves very well....

Hello All.
I have a follow on question as I have been thinking about all of this since I learned that the Merc 4 Stroke 75, 90 and 115 were all the same motor... If I pull the air restricter in my 75 Merc 4 stroke will it change or "mess up" my ECM? I am not talking about re-coding my ECM yet, just pulling the restricter. I would hate to do it to find out that it messes something up and then I will be in "deep" water. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Sincerely,
Rich

Well here as what I think you will find:
(1) Absolutely no concrete definitive evidence that pulling the restricter plate will cause any harm whatsoever.... (2) What you will find by searching the interwebs is plenty of folks who have never so much as touched theirs but say that you shouldn't as it will cause your motor to run lean an burn up.....
(3) A few of us who have removed the pop in washer and gained better acceleration and/or speed without blowing up our motors.
It is my opinion through ownership and reading that Mercury still tunes their engines to run on the richer side of caution and by simply allowing your engine the "ability" to breathe easier is not in itself be the cause of a failure...

My previous boat was a tracker txw 175 with a 2014 75 HP four stroke. I pulled the restrictor plate before I ever put it in the water. When I traded the boat in I had 240 hours on the engine and it never had an issue.

Tee crow-My motor is not all the way down in the last hole it's actually in the third hole from the top. I believe tracker (not my dealership) was throwing band aids at me when they wanted me to raise the motor.

I'm curious to see the ecm burn results and if I have to I can raise the motor.

Mike

Got ya.... While my experiance is limited I surely don't see pontoons working well with the motor pulled up any more than 1 or 2 holes from the lowest setting...

I got the ECM pulled out today and will be sending it out to Simon on Monday. Hoping for the best but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Lol- I was thinking the same on the tube. Debbie from Simon motor sports told 125HP, again we shall see, me having the ct should give me a nice hole shot....lol

My Be because yours is a 75, I'll guess with you. I sent mine out this morning. E-mail from Debbie:

We can boost HP to about 125. You need to remove the restrictor plate (if there is one – not sure if the newer ones have it)
The cost is $650.00. Turnaround time is 3-5 business days.

Thank you for your interest in our services.

Yeah who really knows... I'll still be tickled to have 115 HP out of the 75 without any real loss of longevity...

There are several versions of the 75-115 fourstroke
the earlier motors built up to aprox 2007 i think have yamaha powerheads
The newer merc built up to sometime in 2014 are 1.7 ltr engines
When they came up with the command thrust, the motors changed to a 2.0 ltr
both the newer command thrust and the standard motors are 2.0 Ltr
It looks like Simon is getting 5 more hp on the 2.0 ltr engines
when i sent my ECM in debbie told me to expect 120 hp
it appears that the 2.0 engines may be getting 125 hp
Lucky you, They came out with the 2.0 ltr engines about a month after i got my boat delivered.
however i will be very happy with 120 hp
The 1.7 115 hp motors also redline at 6400 rpm, all of the rest redline at 6000 rpm.

Good info, thanks for posting.

On a side note, I asked if it was possible to set my idle rpm to 550(poor mans troll control). It appears this is possible so I requested it be done.

So I sent my ecm out last Thursday to Simon, they received it this past Tuesday and shipped it back the same day. I will receive it today, can't wait.

Unfortunately winter has arrived in SW Oklahoma but I'll be watching the weather, hopefully we get a small window of decent weather with minimal wind so I cant get out and test the newly acquired power.

More to follow....
