polycarbonate / Lexan for railings

Has anyone used polycarbonate instead of aluminum for the railing panels? Its not that badly priced. High heat and impact resistant. can anyone think of negatives?

Interesting idea. Only negative I can think of is it scratches very easily.
Edited to add: Make sure the grade you get has a UV stabilizer in it. "Radiation from the Sun, especially in the UV portion of the spectrum, degrades the properties of polycarbonate."
