Reusing old deck screws

#1 Post by Big Fish Little Fish » Mon Jun 20, 2016 8:44 pm

I am removing the railings and other items on my pontoon to put on a new vinyl floor. The wood is in good shape so I will be using he same deck floor (marine plywood). My concern is that when I go to screw the parts back on the floor the screws will not grip as well as they originally did. I will be going into the same holes. Has anyone had a problem with this? Is this a concern or am I making a problem out of nothing?

I have not replaced a floor but have reused screws in wood before. I would imagine you could use larger screws. However, I would use some type of quality wood glue on each screw that your going to use if they are the same size or larger.

Lets see how others weigh in on this.

Since your stripping the deck you could also go over it with a putty knife and some wood filler first so the screws have new material to grip.
