Should I go Poly gas tank.

#1 Post by Trollin79 » Mon Jul 11, 2016 1:14 pm

Rebuilding my pontoon. It was an aluminum 25 gal tank that looks ok on the outside. Cant tell what the inside looks like cause its baffled and can't see very well. The boat is an 88' and its the original tank. Was thinking about replacing it with a Poly tank.

Whats your opinion?

I always used a pair of 12 gallon generic plastic tanks. What I like about them is that at season's end, I can turn'em up and drain them completely.

I had one of the tanks last me 28 years of good service--and it's still good. I don't use mega gallons of gasoline anyway.

Go for the change.

Why replace a perfectly good fuel cell? Ain't nothing wrong with an aluminum fuel cells in general, Fact is they hold up quite well. The only time I'm aware of that they commonly fail is when they are utilized for black water holding tanks, where it seems that piss corrodes the hell out of them.
