This will be my first (hopefully last) pontoon rebuild. I have a 93 Playtime 24foot with a 25 Merc 2 cycle. It has quicksilver remote control. I am starting to remove items in order to put a new deck on it. My question...What is the easiest way to remove remote controls? I see that the the shift, throttle and wires go through a hole in the deck to the engine. Do I remove the items from the engine or at the remote. I have seen a video of the inside of the quicksilver and lots of little things that have to go back in place to insure it is working, so am thinking removal at the engine.

Mine was 2 screws per cable at the controller. Look at the link in my sig.

Craigs, thanks for the info. I'll look at it. I think I might have spoken to you a couple of years ago about a Bimini top frame. Mine was collapsed by a bunch of snow. I found one locally and it worked out. Ray

Sounds good. I still have that old Bimini too.

Do you have any connectors in your remote wiring? There should/might be near where the wires go thru the deck. Check inside the rubber boot, if you have one.

Because of all the wires I think it'd be easier to disconnect at the motor. Be sure to label any wires that aren't obvious by color or connector.

Thanks, its supposed to be int he 60's here next week, so will have more time to keep on removing stuff from the boat. Will look for any connectors.

When I replaced my carpet with vinyl, I didn't disconnect everything. I just laid the console on its side. Look at this: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15791

I appreciate your suggestion, unfortunately I have to replace the console, i guess not too bad it's lasted 24 years of outside exposure. Don't think this boat had the privilege of inside storage. I am only going to have to disconnect my steering wheel and cable.

Got it figured out. someone suggested it and I will make a slot for the cables for the controller. It will be covered up by railing anyway, The steering is a rack and pinion, so came apart with 4 allen screws. Will use marine lube as I put it back together.

Got the old deck off and took advantage of unusual warmer weather for Ohio and got the new deck on. Got carpet today, so hoping for 65 degree weather to get carpet glue to work. Wife is getting anxious to have the toon out of the drive way!
