Wife and i bought our first pontoon and are doing some restoration, been kind of a pain but we almost have it the way we want it. We are trying to find out the year of this pontoon so we can put some insurance on it ( mainly cause we bought a brand new 2017, 25 Mercury ) Insurance co won't insure unless we know the year. Since it is under 20ft and has no inboard, state of Michigan does not require a title, just registration which doesn't have the year just a Hull identification # of 71368. I can not find anything anywhere on this pontoon except for The plate on the back of pontoon by the transom just says "Twin-Alume Reg. US Pat. Off. Brown-Hutchinson, Detroit, Mi. NO 71-368 ". I have made phone calls and searched the web and no one can seem to give me an answer or know where to direct me. Can anybody here help me out ??

I appreciate your help and i look thru your suggestions. Hope i didn't mislead you but its under 20ft....Its a 16 footer (deck size)
I don't know if this helps or not but the back transom is adjustable with a hand bracket.

This link lists the 16 footer...

http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1977/Twin-Alume

Quote from link:

"A pontoon boat brand manufactured by Detroit, Michigan’s Brown-Hutchinson Incorporated, Twin-Alume first appeared in the early 1960s. Twin-Alume range of pontoon boats range in sizes from 16 to 24 feet suited for cruising and fishing. The final year of production Twin-Alume pontoon boat occurred in the 1980 model year."

It appears the 16 footer is called "Fisher."

The Fisher was made from 1976 to 1980.

Is it that critical to tell them the 'exact year?'

Four choices, pick your favorite year...

Aren't hull id numbers much longer now... It changed at some point from the 5 digit to the 13 digit or something. That may narrow it down for your guess.

I have an old Sea Nymph 14 aluminum boat that had the 5 digit and I had to get an updated Vin for it. Ohio issued that to me. I have no clue what year it is.

If I were insuring the boat I would ask that to the agent. So that if I had to file a claim someday there would be no questions.

I also rebuilt a older boat and came up against the insurance dilemma. Our agent just so happens to be a broker so we worked it out together to come to an acceptable declared value for our boat. He then submitted the information to see who would underwrite us and at what cost. It was pretty painless overall and we obtained enough to cover our potential loss at a price that was actually quite acceptable.... Might see if a "declared value" policy would work for you.

THANK YOU everyone for your input...got it all worked out with the insurance co. ( I made up the year...lol ) but if anything was to ever happen to it i am comfortable with the amount it is insured for.
