Hi, I have a rail I will need to brace but due to it being at a gate that will be used for entry off a dock and swim ladder I do not really want to use the braces sold on Pontoon Stuff as I feel like people would be stubbing toes on them. I am thinking of using a 90 degree type brace so it will be a little more flush with the floor. Anyone every use these and if they did , did you feel it helped enough? I know stainless steel would be ideal but would it be necessary. We live in the desert so moisture is not much of a problem.

If you could find a 90 log enough and thick enough I would think that would work. The problem is the thickness of the material is all of the strength in that case.

Now if you can find a decent looking shelf brace that may work as they are designed to take a bit more weight than just a simple 90 degree angle. But then again I am thinking it may only brace toward the inside and not as well when you have a push to the outside.

Can you brace on the next support down with the PS brace? My rail has built in bracing that is something between a straight 90 and the PS brace.

I should have looked at them when I was there last week. I wanted to see how far they stuck out in case I had to use them in my redesign.

Thanks for reply. I am thinking that on a couple of parts where this is more of a high traffic walking area I will try the 90 brace and any other places will use the PS type brace. Thanks for input.

Nothing says you can't try stuff. Post some pics if it works ..or if not. I think that is the value of a forum. Learn from others.

I know it gets a little slow on here some days. There is a ton of info and knowledge on here though. It just may take a bit for the right person to log in.

I don't understand the problem of folks stubbing toes and such on a standard gate brace? all of the braces I have seen at gates are like this, they are not in the walking path of the gate? Maybe a picture of your set up would help?

yeah the way that is set up is not a problem. I will have to post pics when I get the fences back.
