Restoring "Loretta Jane"

Well... today began what will be a slow process of restoring "Loretta Jane". We decided on a name, and will officially have the naming ceremony later. We'll likely use the ceremony outlined by badmoonrising, but gonna have to water it down - the Admiral isn't too keen on the topless women. We're naming her after my mother who passed away recently. A beautiful, sweet woman. I hope to honor her by turning the toon back into a beauty.

So today was pull the seats and see if there is any hope. I'm gonna try to attach a couple of pictures. You will see that I will shamelessly promote a product that I learned about here. MAN! What results! I hope you agree.

The 2 bench seats were from opposite sides of the bow. They looked exactly the same.
A ton to do, but today was pretty inspiring. Just gonna have to watch the $$$. I can see where it can get expensive in a hurry. Anxious for tomorrow!

Sorry for your loss, bansil. Sounds like a really nice tribute! My mom's passing was 3 weeks ago.

Cleaned the rest of the seats yesterday and the back cushions today. They all came out great. Also pressure washed the carpet to get out the pelican/owl/? crap and stains. Turned out well, but the carpet will definitely be replaced after this year. Rotted...especially the front platform.

Be happy to know I have solved a major problem for the country! To identify sex offenders and enemy combatants, throw pelican crap on them! They will be permanently marked!! lol - I'm so damn funny!

I need some advice, please -- The hinges on one of the gates are corroded and will not budge. I sprayed them with Corrosion X, which usually works, but no joy. Anyone know of a product that will work?

Details on that Marine31? Spray & wipe or did you need to scrub (what with)?

I don't recall reading about that. Following other advice on this forum I've now got several bottles of 303 Protectant, Awesome Cleaner, Purple Power, Star Brite, and some mildew-killing house wash. LOL

I might have been mistaken about reading Marine 31 here. Sorry. My wife ordered it (a gallon and a spray bottle).
Spray on... let sit for a minute or two... sponge/ towel off... rinse well when finished. Some stubborn places needed a medium firm brush. We sparingly used Magic Eraser on some parts. REALLY bad spots were done twice. One key was - do NOT wet them first. Seemed to do much better starting dry. Sounds weird, but it worked.
Now be aware these are old seats. Marine 31 has pretty strong bleach, but I'm not worried right now because I'm planning to replace them next year. If you get it on the carpet, or your shirt, it's gonna bleach it out. If these were newer seats, I might think about it twice because of its bleach. We did the seats off the boat, and were very careful while doing the back cushions on the boat.

I will find out where she ordered it and $.

Not trying to advertise for any single company, here is the link to Marine 31. This combo + tax & shipping (NW Florida) was $60.00.

You know...just for grins I'm gonna try this. If it works, you'll be a genius!

Been working on the clean up of the boat. After sitting untouched on the lift in the salt air for 10 years, I was afraid it was going to be a lost cause for this year. Luckily, everything is cleaning quite nicely and my plan for getting this season out of her is looking good.
One small tear in one of the bimini tops; 5 hydraulic arms rusted out; gas tank needs pumping and exterior cleaning; new battery and testing electrical; - a lot of little things actually.
Gotta get her towed to the ramp to get her on the trailer. There's a guy who will come work on the motor at your house - much preferred than having to drag her to a shop. As soon as he does a (hopefully) small amount of magic, I hope to hit the water. Being optimistic and realistic, I'm thinking she might be wet in the next couple of weeks.

Hope everyone is having a great Easter weekend!

Well, Craig, you might be half genius! Actually tried the "pour Coke on the corrosion" on the gate hinges... After a bit, took a pry bar and lifted the "lock" side just enough to get it to clear, and pushed it open. It was a hard push. Slowly worked it back and forth, spraying some WD-40 Silicone, scrubbing with a small wire brush, drinking the remaining Coke, lifting the hinge side with the pry bar a little at a time. Works like a dream now!

Clean up is pretty much done enough for getting wet. Seats all cleaned well. Carpet is clean and in decent shape. Console all clean and gauges shiny and working. Been very happy with the look. Pics will follow.

Took the motor cover off. Looks like a new motor! No dirt. No sludge. Plugs look brand new. Plug wires show no dryness. New fuel line, fuel filter, clean gas, some red Heet, new battery. Bumped it and it started. Ran rough at first (of course) but settled a bit. Shut it off. Can't wait for the motor guy to get to it. Very excited so far.

I would really appreciate some advice/ recommendations on docking lights. What's good? What sucks?

only problem with flush mounts are the lack of vertical adjustment, that is why I went with what I did

otherwise back ones would be in the water and front would light up the top of trees lol
