Do you not have a bleed valve you can loosen for manual operation?

Do NOT be under motor when you loosen it, that shit be heavy YO'

what year or model and SN of engine, we can look for diagrams or a manual.

mine has a manual bleed, as well as manual electric controls on the side of engine (great for installing transom saver)
The motor is a 2003 Mercury 75hp ELPTO S/N 0T663731 --The link you provided looks to be the manual I need. Thanks for your help!

I feel like I ain't no pansy, but you're right... 305 lbs be a heavy bag o' falling shit! :scared

what I did was crack it real quick and quickly and lightly re-close it, that way it was more controllable like an old floor jack, when you loosen it

Isn't that the manual relief valve right below the label (bottom center)?

My first thought, too. But not.

Not yet on doing any work, but the manual is great. Swamped at work for the next several days, so it's weekend work only right now. By then, I expect I'll have that manual section memorized!

Thanks, again. :bowdown

During and since Subtropical Storm Alberto, water's been a bit choppy and all the dead sea grass churned up. Being on the west side of the landfall, we were very fortunate. Breezy and a couple of medium showers. Hope everyone has been as lucky as I have. :prayer [You OK over there, FLOUNDERPOUNDER225?]

Must have pulled something loose when fixing the steering cable. No juice going to the stern. Got under the console yesterday to check the seating of all harnesses, etc. Not an easy thing being 6'4" and 220 lbs.
Doesn't help when the wiring under the console looks like leftover spaghetti.

Gonna start at the motor and work forward tomorrow. MAYBE I'll get wet again before Labor Day. :|

Need Input Please....... This is where I will walk across the line marking my level of knowledge. Please forgive me if I sound like I'm fumbling for technical knowledge.

Scratching our heads about the lack of power communication between the console and the motor, buddy and I decided to check the starter. Used the screwdriver across the contacts method. Starter is spinning, but not rising up to the flywheel. Can it be as "simple" as needing to replace the starter? I'm hoping to avoid just replacing parts one after another for the sake of ruling out possibilities, but if this is the one, I'll order that thing right away and get it replaced!

I hope I don't sound dumb, but this ain't my strong suit. Could really use some expertise here.

Does starter spin with the turning the key? Do you have 12v at starter lug from battery, yes because you jumped contacts.
So the small wire at starter activates the starter solinoid when you turn key. Do you have 12v at the wire when key turned to start? If yes, it sounds like starter solinoid is bad. No? Then switch isn't working right. Any burnt fuses? Is neutral safety switch still connected? Do you have power to other things when key is "on"?

Yes. Starter does spin with the key. I will put a volt meter on the wire this afternoon to check voltage when the key is turned. Seems to turn the same whether jumping contacts or turning the key.
Yes. Everything else "up front" works - nav lights, stereo, docking lights. Gauges all pop to life when key is turned on.
Yes. All fuses show good from the motor forward.

I am hoping it is the solenoid, as goofy as that sounds. THAT I can replace. Thank you for the quick response bansil. Trying like hell to get wet again. There are aggravating moments where I want you to come blow this shit up! :-|

well if starter spins with the key then the solenoid is good, The solenoid just "jumps" the heavy cables so wires don't burn up

So starter spins but engine doesnt turn over, first thing I would do is pull out the plugs and and pull fuse for ignition, try turning motor over if you can not hear air huffing from spark plug holes engine isnt turning over just the starter is turning

If engine has to much resistance to turn (like when it tries to start) it will kick the starter out of gear and just spin

I would pull the starter and check the teeth on it and then using jumper cables attach the positive to the starter lug nut (do not touch it to bare threads it can arc and mess up threads) and then touch the black clamp to starter body to ground it you do that 2 things should happen

1: the starter spins

2: the bendix will kick out the gear that engages with the fly wheel and spins

or 3: you dont have your foot on it good enough and it rolls around on the ground trying to pit bull your ass

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYioIBeUedw

if starter spins but the gear does come out, take starter apart and clean it

what does it do now?

Does that sound as clear as mud :? :donno I just confused myself re-reading it
