Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
Just finished trimming vinyl everything going well up to now.Trying to decide if I should cut holes or put trim on first. Looking to see if my control cables will fish through holes because there is not much space on Landau between pontoon logs and deck since I am rearranging the furniture and moving console back 18" from original I may need to get creative.

Getting ready to start on my 24' Landau and also expecting to re-run the cables. I'm going to watch your thread closely to see how it goes.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
After looking at the measurements on the original hole for the shift/speed control cables the hole was cut 10 1/2" inches from the edge. I was going to set mine up the same way as original but decided against it, I was concerned that the original way the cables were ran would make it difficult if I ever had to replace them so I will come up through deck and have cut 2" hole 4" from edge to center of hole try to come up with something to cover them. The cables were easy to pass through deck without any excessive bending.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
A couple of years ago I had to replace the steering cable. Found out what a booger it was, especially found the importance of the correct length. It's a thick, mostly unforgiving cable. If you're using the existing one, I wonder if you'll see any issues running your steering cable if it's an 18" shorter run?

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
I am concerned about the cable length also, thats why I decided to make it a little closer to deck edge so it would be easier to change if needed and I am going to move the control a little closer to console. I am thinking I may be able to get the control less than a foot shorter. Hoping I don't have to buy new cables.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
My 20ft pontoon boat does not have a front deck. I have been thinking about removing my 2 side gates which should give about 27" for a front deck. The problem I see with this is the loss of side gates and still not sure if 27" would be enough to allow for 2 folding/swivel fishing chairs on front deck. Does anyone have a front deck this size with fishing chairs and what are the pros/cons of putting them on this size deck.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
Well, live and learn I was bolting my rails to deck today on my Landau BT20 and found out that you cannot reach the rail bolts to add washer and nuts after putting deck trim on which is a bear if you are reusing the C channel and 84mil vinyl. So I am removing the deck trim so that I can reach the bolts to add washers and nuts to bottom of rail bolts. The problem is after adding the C channel deck trim there is only about 1/2 inch gap between the bottom of the trim and the edge of pontoon log which is not enough room for fingers or wrenches.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
I, too, noticed when I removed my rail that it was the only way to reach those nuts. The Landau seems to sit right on top of the logs. Makes it a bit of a contortionist move to reach things. But - I do like the look of the deck sitting down close on the logs with no big space.
I got lucky(ish) and checked my measurements moments before ordering the flooring kit. My 24' is actually 24'6"! Have to order the 28' kit - another $150. B-O-A-T!

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
Yes, I also like the look of it with closed space between logs and deck.

Re: 1996 Landau BT-20 rebuild
Deckmate furniture is unpacked and starting to put them together. Some notes about the slots in bases for the backrests. The slots were routed about 3/4" wide and the fender washers supplied are about 1" wide this causes the washer to slip through the slots and does not hold seat backs well. I purchased 1.5" fender washers to fix this and it worked to hold them more secure. You can see the slots in this picture.
