My Simrad (no external antenna) is flush mounted in my dash and the only time it has a problem getting a signal is when I'm under the metal roof on my slip.

I think almost all of the smaller GPS capable, dash mountable devices rely only on an internal antenna and they seem to work fine.
Hey, thanks, Steve! That's what I was hoping to hear.

My garmin is under my aluminum roof and never has an issue, roof is about 5ft above plotter, I think they have a wide line of site to satilites, really not sure why it works when hand held gps fails under gas pump awnings??

Thanks for that input. I'm gonna go with it. I just wanted some reassurance I wasn't gonna cut a hole in the new console and be screwed.

My dang cell phone is the same way. We can send a man to the moon; he can get out and drive a car on the moon; he can talk to the Earth from the moon; he can even play GOLF on the moon; come back to Earth from the moon; and I can't talk to my wife from our house to the damn grocery store. :x :x

On a positive note -- began the careful task of putting the new aluminum paneling in the fence rails yesterday. Gonna be slow to be precise, but it's gonna look great! :nana

Love the color! Sweet trailer.

Found one of those "couldn't have done it without it" tools. Electric aluminum shears are the bomb-diggity. Might be for sale after this rebuild. :donno

Got the fence finished yesterday - just in time for today's delivery! :alright

Also started on the console. Love it! Really getting excited now. :nana :nana

Yeah, those shears made me complete. I fretted for a long while about how to cut that aluminum without leaving scalloped edges everywhere. I know it's possible, but I was scared! :scared :scared

Been working on the console. The large console kit from Pontoon Stuff is great. BUT - it only comes with the burl wood finish panels for the gauges and switch panel. The OCD set in with it looking off balance. We ordered a blank gauge panel and my wife (the perfectionist) made a template and made a piece for it! It will hold the Humminbird and the stereo (round). Very happy with how that turned out! :alright

Still shooting for end of April. :prayer :prayer

The console looks real nice, The burl wood really looks good on that console. What size hole did you have to drill for your steering?

Did you have to add anything behind your console to support the steering? I bought the premium console and the thickness of it looks thin I was thinking I may add some plywood behind console to give it some strength.

Thanks for the good words. We are really liking the burl wood. I don't know if you went with the add-on kit. I replaced the depth sounder that comes with it with a fuel gauge. I have depth on my Humminbird, and a ~20 gal fuel tank.

I drilled a 3" hole and had to grind it out just a touch to seat the bracket.

I had read (maybe on PontoonStuff's site?) that they were confident it would be no issue. After seating the bracket, it still seems quite sturdy. I hope I'm not wrong. Boy, THAT would suck.

I'll holler when I get it all together, but it may be a week before I can get it done. :censored

Looks great, there is a company in NC that sells that bulk, I have a pc at work for future boat things.

Where did you get yours?

What are plans moving forward for shade etc?

I hope to start on our new console the end of may, the damn virus shit has my welder not showing up until may, plasma table still looks like may.....and then it will be may showers.... :happy

I can not wait to get new console cut out and welded together and then wifey can pull me around the lake on the new tube!!

Going for either a dino, unicorn or bigazz pink flamingo :thumbsup
