Does anyone put joining tape on every crossmember

I understand the point of the joining tape is help keep water out of joints. Though I'm sitting here thinking why would you not put it on every crossmember.
1. So that they all points of contact have the same thickness.
2. Or I'm I just overcomplicating this.

Thanks.

answered my own question that stuff sucks. Does not stay in place, stretches, moves, and makes placing boards a 2 person job because boards stick to tar.
