Looking for input on a tilt and trim solution. I have a 1992 Nissan n70a2 outboard on a rebuilt pontoon. Tilt motor has finally died. All other components are perfect. Motor is in excellent shape. Ive looked to replace the factory Nissan/Tohatsu trim unit but none exist. Tohatsu advised those model are obsolete and no replacement parts are manufactured. I might find one eventually in a boat yard somewhere, but no leads yet. Similar units on eBay are going for nearly $500.
Anyone have any ideas on matching the existing cylinder/lift unit lines to a similar tilt/trim pump unit of another make? I have found complete motor, reservoir, pump rebuilt Volvo Penta units for less than $150 ready to ship. My thought is just connecting new line fittings and plugging in to the Volvo trim pump.
Anything I might be overlooking as in it may not be that simple?

Since Nissan was made my Tohatsu, would any of their motors on Amazon work? Only $65.
Re: Tilt and Trim problem
No modern Tohatsu motors will fit. They all use a different design when it comes to shaft and overall diameter. Tohatsu informed me they consider those year models 'obsolete' and haven't made parts for them since the 90's. I also found the pump has a bad valve piece after closer inspection. I could make it on a lathe, but time has me looking to replace the setup. Looking like a Volvo Penta unit like model 3857265-7 will work, just have to adapt the lines to new fittings.
Re: Tilt and Trim problem
Problem solved. New pump with one year warranty from Amazon for $139. It's a DBElectrical brand Volvo-Penta rebuild. Looks like Tohatsu used a similar vendor back in the day or outright copied that design. Only had to bend the current cylinder input lines into a Brake Tee fitting and fashion 3/16 brake line to connect so that I could match the Volvo-Penta model's single output whereas the Tohatsu pump had two outputs. Both pumps have single returns. Even the pump's tri-hole mount mated to the engine transom mount bolts.
Lesson: tilt-trim pumps are not that peculiar, just pushing fluid. Strange how some setups cost thousands of dollars.
