Mounting location for a depth / fishfinder

#1 Post by partybarge21 » Mon Dec 15, 2008 7:32 am

I have received my new depth / fishfinder.
I was thinking of mounting it on the back of the pontoon that has the mount for my well pump. The bracket that covers the pump seems to have plenty of room to drill and mount the underwater sensor on. Using the cover to mount on allows me not to put any holes in the pontoon and hence no possiblity of leaks.
Were do you guys have yours mounted?

Same here!
Thats the right place to put it!

Ive already got one there for my depth finder.
I want to add a fishfinder/gps now and i guess im gonna have to figure out a way to share the existing transponder.
Havent figured that one out yet...

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the info.
That is exactly where I was thinking of mounting it.

Rick, I printed out the picture for reference. (I didn't say I was bright. I need reference  )

Does anyone have any ideas for a front mounted depth finder? I already have one on the stearn of the boat that goes down several inchs. I need one on the front so as to keep the one on the back (90 Merc) out of the mud.
Thanks,
Tom

I have a similar original factory installed Garmin mounted like most - to the pump bracket. I added a second Humminbird to the transom - see image. I found that it gets much less turbulance and hence much, much better high speed performance than the one mounted to the port side log pump bracket. I don't know if your transom is set up like mine so I can't say how it will work.
