Anyone use the "Bad Elf" or "LaptopNav" chart plotters?

Has anyone used either of these GPS/chart plotters?

For iPad/iPod: Bad Elf plus the app: Navionics Marine & Lakes.

For PC: LaptopNav Chart Plotter Bundle.

They both seem to be GPS antenna and software that turns your device - iPad or laptop into a chart plotter. If both work, they seem cool as heck. A lot cheaper than buying a entire device. The biggest draw back that I can foresee is finding a place to put a laptop in/on the console. A place that will keep it dry while underway, or during that sudden rain shower that always pops up.

I've certainly heard of the Navionics software for the Bad Elf. I've not heard about the SeaClear. Anyone?
