Need new stereo receiver

#1 Post by redbeard » Thu Feb 14, 2013 12:24 pm

Okay guys here's the deal I need a new stereo receiver and need your advice I don't need another POS. What are your pros and cons of different brands of stereos on the market. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

You going to install yourself or have it done? If you install you may want to ask herb and/or Craig what they think of the ones they got from pontoon stuff. If you want to have it installed, just haul it over to the local Best-buy or Car toys and pick out one of the marine radios they sell to have them install it.

Do it myself jack of all trades to tight to pay someone else to do what I can do for free. My stereo started out working good, but as time when on it got worse, this unit is only 2-3 years old I don't want to keep doing this. It never would pickup FM I have a booster splitter on the UHF still no FM. buttons quite working and one fell off or inside the unit. I'm just looking for one that will sound good and hold up.

I would go with something that either has a aux port, a iPhone connection (if that is your phone) and a blue-tooth connection... Listening to music on CDs, USB sticks etc is out... And if it ain't out at your location yet it is probably going to be within a year. The reason is SPOTIFY.
With today's smart-phones and most people getting a free Internet service with unlimited internet traffic on their account then... Unless your completely in the woods without Internet connection on your phone. SPOTIFY is the deal.

So what is SPOTIFY?
It is a Internet service where you for a very low monthly cost can create and play whatever songs you want and play lists you want. It gives you access to millions of songs.
If you dont want to pay for the premium service you can always use SPOTIFY Free. It is commercial based. Myself I pay about $12 a month so it is so worth it.

Truman is NOT a good lake for phones so no internet. I do use CDs and MP3 players for my toons, it makes it easy for every one to pick what they want to listen too. I carry about 100 CDs on the boat burn them at home and put them on the boat where they stay.

I've been looking at Dual, Jensen, Kenwood, Boss, and Sony. I have been reading that the Sony is a POS.

I have the Sony CDX-H910UI Xplōd in our pontoon and it a very highly rated head unit. Has a USB port for iphone or ipod and can also have a back of the boat controller to control it or your ipod or iphone.

Cheers,

I have found that going Sirious/XM makes everyone happy! Obviously you do lose total control on song selection but it is commercial free and has stations perfect for coving out...

Of course a playlist on the ipod is greatas well, but we used a portable XM unit all last summer and plug in to great speakers....loved it and switched to whatever mood we were in...
